Biden to unveil $3.3 billion Microsoft AI investment in battleground Wisconsin

WASHINGTON, May 8 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden will visit the political battleground state of Wisconsin on Wednesday to announce plans by Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) to build a $3.3 billion high-tech data center that will create thousands of jobs, the White House said.

The Microsoft facility in Racine County, in southeastern Wisconsin, will be built on the same land where Taiwan electronics manufacturer Foxconn had planned to build a $10 billion factory that former President Donald Trump once called "the eighth wonder of the world," before Foxconn drastically scaled back its plans.

Microsoft's plans will result in 2,300 union construction jobs and around 2,000 permanent jobs over time, the White House said. It said nearly 4,000 jobs had been added in Racine since Biden took office, while about 1,000 manufacturing jobs were lost during the Trump administration.

Microsoft will partner with Gateway Technical College to train 1,000 people for data center and other roles by 2030, and will work to train 1,000 business leaders to adopt AI in their operations, the White House added. "Together, these investments will position the industrial heartland to lead the way in industries of the future," it said. Biden, a Democrat, will also use his fourth trip this year to Wisconsin - one of seven swing states critical to his 2024 reelection bid - to meet with volunteers in Racine's Black community, his campaign said in a separate statement.

Biden is clearly winning on jobs. It's time for voters to wise up to the fact that Dems are really the pro jobs party that's good for the economy.

If he's not in jail by election time, it would be fun to highlight his failed promises in campaign videos.

.... while pushing foxCON on the Wisconsin taxpayers.

The Microsoft project sounds like a great solution to the foxCON failure forced on Wisconsin taxpayers.

If memory serves me right, according to news reports at the time, they forced families out of their homes with the promise of jobs, jobs, jobs, and then delivered less than 100 total.

A tv newsclip showed an elderly gentleman pointing to a spot in the distance, saying "Right there, that's where my house was." He said he didn't know anyone who wanted to move. Shruged his shoulders and said "I guess that's progress."
It brought tears to my eyes....

Won't developing more AI eventually take over the humans in those same jobs that are being created now?

... and will work to train 1,000 business leaders to adopt AI in their operations, the White House added

or am I missing the big picture?

12. I think the problem is what is an out-of-control "rebranding" of now-updated tech that has been around for years

I.e., slapping a cute name "AI" onto it.

I saw an article yesterday that mentioned this guy (from over 20 years ago) -

I expect it has a place but it's not at the stage of AI-enabled articulating robots replacing every blue collar job yet.
