Trump had two solid years with full control of the House and Senate and he wasnt able to build his stupid fucking wall, nor get Mexico to pay for it.
Then he ran a mid-term election solely on how were all gonna die if we dont BUILD THAT WALL to protect us from scary brown people and he got CREAMED. He lost dozens of seats and control of the House of Representatives.
Trump got elected in 2016 on the promise of building a wall. He had two years and he blew it. The next time the people got a chance to vote, they turned around, threw out the Republicans who were promising a wall, and put the Democrats in charge.
On what fucking planet are the Dems now supposed to turn around and give loser Trump the thing that he couldnt even get from his own loser party???

(32,648 posts)They're trying to push public sentiment in that direction it seems. Do they not understand that they play a role in public perception?
Next time that question is asked, someone should say, "Depends. Will your boss allow you to do your f*cking job and accurately report the truth? All of trump's lies about the wall, as well as crimes involving undocumented workers at his own facilities, are very well documented. You could try reporting on that during the standoff."

(16,068 posts)the worst possible thing to do is give it to him.
I suspect that if he had been denied things just to shut him up as a child, he might be a different type of person.

Reminds me of the story Thom Hartmann tells about the group of people who periodically visit some huge glass-enclosed arboretum somewhere to shake the trees. The structure contains an abundance of plant life and is, of course, protected from the natural elements, including the wind. These people come to shake the trees to imitate what would be occurring out-of-doors in order to make the tree roots strong as they grow. Otherwise, they fall over very easily if pushed.

(16,068 posts)The story about the trees is interesting.
We have a three year old in charge of our government. It terrifies me.

(47,255 posts)Trump did and he promised over and over again that Mexico would pay for it, "Believe me folks, believe me."
Sounds like Trump's problem to me. Democrats aren't responsible for Trump's broken promises. Maybe he shouldn't have promised stupid crap.

(82,849 posts)Why don't election winners have a mandate anymore? Trump lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million ballots, but all anyone in the media could talk about is how the American people had given the Republicans an irrevocable mandate to do pretty much anything they wanted forever, in spite of any number of election irregularities, gerrymandering, and open Republican cheating. The Democrats win a smashing mid-term victory with the highest turnout in memory, and all the media can talk about is how the Democrats need to reach across the aisle and do what the Republicans couldn't do when they held all the power.
Fuck that shit.

(4,344 posts)The talking heads have done their fair share to mess up our country and are still clueless and/or bought by the republicons of the 1% and corporations. The Democrats need to take these issues and shove them down the throats, or maybe up the asses of every republicon until that party is nothing but a bad, distant nightmare. Period.

(9,865 posts).....talking point so that the MSM would finally have to also say: "For 5 Billion we could build x number of schools, fix x number of roads and bridges, train x number of rural and out of work coal miners in tech jobs, grant x number of free college educations" and on and one and on.

(5,730 posts)If this magical wall were somehow to be built, who is going to pay to MAINTAIN IT? Ground shifts, floods, lightning strikes, heat/cold, man-made damage - a wall of this size would cost a FORTUNE to maintain, even to monitor for damage and weaknesses. Wildlife migrations interrupted, properties falling to eminent domain and losing their value, and more and more.
It's like that war in Iraq that was supposed to last a few weeks and we would be welcomed as liberators - so welcome that they would reward us with their oil! Years and thousands of lives later, it goes on.
After it is determined that the wall was impractical, useless, and costly, then we would have to pay to tear it down and remove the debris.
