Millions of Americans start preparing their tax returns at the beginning of the new year.
That means millions of Americans many of them Trump supporters are about to find out that the big tax break they were promised simply doesnt exist. They are about to face the reality that the few extra bucks they saw in their paychecks will have to be paid back, because their traditional write-offs no longer exist.
In other words, millions of Trumpsters are about to understand that theyve been had. Many of them will actually be paying more in taxes than they did before Dear Leader announced his massive middle-class tax cut the majority of which went to already-wealthy individuals and corporations.
As we all know, Republican voters dont give a shit about who gets burned as a result of GOP policies until theyre the ones being roasted over an open fire.
For two years, the MAGA-hat crowd have ignored, excused, and/or explained-away Trumps lies. It will be interesting to watch how they react to finding out that their much-touted tax break was just another scam perpetrated by the Con-Artist-in-Chief along with the realization that they were stupid enough to fall for it.

(5,808 posts)Proverbial lead balloon. Folks used to getting a sizeable check in returned overpayment of tax often file as soon as the W-2s hit their hands. Frequently they need the money to pay bills. Imagine their chagrin to learn that the IRS is running on empty and wont able to process returns and/or their hefty refund is reduced or gone?! Cant blame Obama for that, although Numbnuts tRump surely will try.

(5,896 posts)They'll believe that the Democratic House that was seated today has somehow already screwed them out of the "massive middle-class tax cut" Trump promised.
But the truth might slowly dawn on millions of other Trump supporters, who will have to come to grips with the realization that they've been lied to, conned, and used.

(33,643 posts)Cause ... I'm pretty sure Nance wouldn't shy away from that particular word ... lol ...
But yeah, this could get pretty epic if millions of his cult-members suddenly find out the ONE THING (aside from racism) that Trump could hang his hat on ... the 'tax cut' ... is a load of bullshit, and they discover they're actually WORSE OFF?!?
Woooooo ... that could get ugly. Esp. if the Dow keeps falling ...

My boss was not too excited to find out that his employees who often drive as much as 40,000 miles a year can't write their miles off now. He has always covered gas, oil changes and any work the vehicles needed but we wrote the miles off ourselves to cover the wear and devaluation. So he is going to have to pick up the tab for that now for around 40 employees. Probably about $100,000 out of his pocket. I am 100000% honest about this. HE IS PISSED!

(14,483 posts)I traveled extensively for many years in field service and can remember tracking mileage religiously and building a spreadsheet for all the jobs. Even had a weekly allowance for routine business mileage at home (for banking, office supplies, etc.). For many years, that deduction and the one for my office space at home kept my taxes much lower.
This is going to get very raw for many small employers especially, as travelers will want compensation as you've described.

(14,483 posts)but I still know some guys in the biz that this will affect. Most will be pissed, but the Repug ones will make excuses and try to protect tRump.
It seems Republicans have always been very skilled in passing tax and regulatory legislation that they can paint as a pretty shiny object to workers, while real analysis always proves the working man suffers in the long-term and the wealthy guys always win.
That's their game in a nutshell.

(14,483 posts)(snip)
Small businesses have always relied on the generosity of employees for the use of personal vehicles to run errands, attend meetings and continuing education programs, etc. Most good ones reimbursed their guys at the end of the month for travel if mileage was reported properly. Thereby, small companies avoided funding a fleet of company cars (except for the boss), along with the related headaches and fights over access to cars.
Now, when many of those request are made, the boss will hear the words "keys to the company car, please".....

(14,483 posts)you and your associates should address this with your company ASAP so that a compensation policy can be implemented if possible. That's also because you might have to start documenting your mileage in a different way to get compensation.
Perhaps one of you can do a consultation with a CPA soon to make sure you know your options and what you should be doing regarding tracking mileage, and to help prevent your company from tricking you......

(6,137 posts)the standard deduction is higher now. Its folks in non-trump country are screwed like me in CA, due to SALT cap. In trump country, no property and local taxes would come anywhere near 10k.

(18,893 posts)I had to explain this to a couple of Trumpublicans a few weeks ago. They're both income property owners and thought tRump's tax cuts for the wealthy were going to be a windfall for them. When they found out that their usual deductions had been flushed down the shitter they reacted rather irately. Yes, they get higher standard deductions, but that's not going to come anywhere near the deductions they had for 10 or so rental properties. Be careful what you wish for.

I bring this up all the time, but I always wonder how many MAGA-hat wearers have noticed the Made in China tag inside the headband. And then I wonder how many of them have thought about why their "Put America First pResident" has his merchandise manufactured by non-American workers.

(1,975 posts)Saved, as always, Nance. Some of my MAGAt neighbors are going to be very hurt by this - VERY. They rely on their tax returns and Alaska PFD to pay rent and for the winter fuel to heat their homes. The PFD offices were hacked and are closed - we usually file by January 5 for early deposit. Our Fed income tax return will stay fairly steady even with the Orange Con's New Rules, fortunately.
But no vacation again this year.
Keep at 'em Nance! And thank you for explanations that we need.
