January 4, 2019 at 1:37 am EST By Taegan Goddard
In one of her first duties as Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi sent an official invitation to President Trump to deliver the State of the Union on January 29. But her letters opening was a clear and unmistakable message to the president:
When asked by the New York Times if she considers herself Mr. Trumps equal, Pelosi didnt hesitate in her reply: The Constitution does.
We dont know what what will happen over the next two years, but the new Speaker could not have set a more different tone than former Speaker Paul Ryan.

(48,994 posts)It is supposed to provide checks and balances and give states more power, but they get that power by having two Senators each, even backward states or underpopulated states.
It is so freaking byzantine. It needs to go.

(6,911 posts)It was the perfect question to elicit the perfect answer she gave. It frames the debate exactly as Pelosi would like the public to hear.
I understand how the question appears challenging and petty, but it will go down in history as where Pelosi drew the Constitutional battle lines. In essence, she called Trump just a temporary occupant of much larger organization called the U.S. Government
Trump thinks he's a king, he's just an employee.

(7,142 posts)she can flip the right wing narrative in a split second. The right wing corporate controlled M$M better think twice about asking Speaker Pelosi loaded questions, she is the real deal.
OAC also has that ability. The Democratic future is bright, just think what we can do if we can get the M$M to be impartial.

(4,291 posts)Its already begun. Even before Speaker Pelosi was sworn-in, some right-wing, Qanon website accused her of agreeing to pay for the wall, so long as each and every gun-toting American was disarmed. The facts that such action is not only completely unconstitutional, but also a logistical impossibility never cane up. It was a full serving of red meat for ammo-sexuals, MAGAts, and other low-information types.
Im just surprised that hannity and limp-balls havent added this rumor to their daily screeds. Yet.

(58,785 posts)I've been newly amazed too many times to count now to realize that Republicans elected a man who at age 70 literally did not know that.
Sadly, I now understand that most, not all, of them would have knowingly elected an authoritarian leader who refuses to accept it.

I did not like the selfless movie "The Fountainhead" and have
not watched Gary Cooper since (years ago).

(5,810 posts)I can imagine him back in school....he was probably a delight to try to teach.
He tends to think (using the term loosely here) that he already knows eveything. And when he truly does not know (which happens a lot) he fakes it or just flat out makes sh*t up. He is quite dangerous because he has influence, power and authority to do many things that can cause real damage. His supporters fall for his BS because he says things with confidence and assurance even if they are total fabrications....because often they dont know either but assume he does. He isnt really a President but he plays one on TV.
