What they call “frictional unemployment” is bound to increase as people perceive a stronger jobs market. I’d say that it’s just as likely that some of the added unemployment is also people reentering the market.

We’ll see whether that lasts in the face of the market pullback over the last couple months.

On the individual level, of course you’re correct. Don’t leave an “acceptable” job without having the better one locked up. But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen.

In the real world, ya keep the job you are on, search and apply for a better paying and hopefully one will at least call you in for an interview, they like you, and hire you.

Therefore, it is not possible that the unemployment figure includes people "who quit their job to get a higher paying job" because you can't get unemployment benefits under that scenario. If the jobs market is so strong, those quitting their jobs wouldn't have to look long for that supposed "other job that pays better". This is just a nonsensical argument with no basis in reality.

If people are quitting their jobs for the many better jobs out there, unemployment should stay the same, or even go down since there are so many jobs out there.
