they can't make sense of every word any more than the rest of us can.

they pick and choose one or two phrases or catch-words or whatever and latch on to them for dear life and use them to insist that he's the best president ever and no amount of facts or arguments will change their minds.

the reason he rambles as long as he does is to make sure every one of his faithful have at least one or two such phrases to latch on to.

he knows they'll ignore the rest.

So many of them don’t have any information and don’t want any information. So much aggrievement. I always go back to a scene in a famous Italian novel called The Betrothed of a man carrying live chickens tethered together by their feet... and they’re pecking at each other. They actually have reason to be aggrieved, but their response is completely misplaced.

This means that it’s necessary to accept things the way they are and move on to effective tactics. Know your enemy. Don’t get stuck on thinking Trump will ever change. He will die screaming the same crap. Find a way of fighting him effectively by striving to neutralize him. By making his power grabs ineffective. By going around him or over him without engaging him.

I guarantee Pelosi and Schumer know this. It’s how politicians think. It’s their bread and butter. They are up against the Presidency and the powers bestowed on it which is the only thing that makes Trump as powerful as he is now. If it weren’t for that he would be gone by now.
