"SNIP....
After two weeks of the federal government being shut down, President Donald Trump is now less popular than new Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)
The results came from a new Gallup poll which found that Pelosi has a favorable rating of 38% and an unfavorable rating of 48%, a gap of 10 points. However, Trump has a favorable rating is 40% compared to an unfavorable rating of 58%, a gap of 18 points.

(14,784 posts)Because POTUS is elected by all people, and any individual Congressperson is not. Most people have no personal voting history with any individual Congressperson they are polled on, but they did vote for or against the POTUS (assuming, obviously, they voted at all). Ergo the POTUS approval rating has a much higher floor because of many respondents' self-identities and egos being tied up in the POTUS they voted for. Saying they did not approve of POTUS would be akin -- at least subconsciously -- to admitting a mistake or forsaking their party identity. People are loathe to do either of those things.
The fact that she is rated so highly is great, but when/if she ceases to be, it is not really a big deal, and doesn't say anything interesting about whether people prefer her policies or Trump's policies.
