We are blessed to have a number of great candidates. I have a soft place in my heart for Joe. I brought back a number of signs used during the National Convention and my son grabbed one of the Joe's signs. I took one for myself and the other delegate to the convention grabbed the last one. I believe that Joe would probably matched up best with trump

(7,534 posts)I support Biden and others who want to enter the race. We need not criticize Dem candidates here, the right will take care of that.

(7,408 posts)And getting all the attention, the room is about to get crowded though in the next two weeks. It was a great strategy move to jump out first on her part and could even possibly bump her out of the single digits in polling in Iowa.

(10,302 posts)Minority leader Mitch McConnell sounds nice to me. Former Senator sounds even better.
Majority writes the rules. A Democratic Senate could make it a majority vote for everything, do away with the 60 vote rule (unless the constitution says otherwise).
So you're right... being nice with McTurtle isn't a major selling point.

(14,950 posts)But therein lies the rub... What constitutes the best opponent? Especially since categorically any Democrat will strongly contrast with Trump on policy.
Maximal contrast in all aspects, political and personal?
Contrast in some aspects but not others?
Similarities in all aspects except those which must exist to still be a Democrat?
Biden has a lot of superficial similarities with Trump (age, gender, ethnicity, top-level categorical monotheism [alleged in Trump's case, anyhow]). And if you think most voters are insightful and wonky then those similarities don't matter because there is so much substantive difference between the two. If you think most voters are superficial and poorly informed, then support of Biden as Trump's best opponent if Right Wing deza. Which is it? Well, you decide.

(7,408 posts)A Biden campaign would need some diversity in it's VP pick to contrast the "old white guy" -ness he brings along. That means he either needs a woman or someone of color or both. I don't think Abrams or Gillum have the resumes to be realistic VP picks though.

Edit...not a gender thing in any way.

(108,973 posts)Both because of his failure to fully support Anita Hill, especially by not calling the women who were prepared to offer corroborating testimony; and in his overly physical way of showing affection. There are too many pictures out there showing him nuzzling girls and women while they squirm uncomfortably. Those photos would come back to haunt us.

Now a front-runner in early Democratic primary polls, Biden was pilloried at the time for his handling of the 1991 confirmation hearings of then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. Thomas was accused by Hill of inappropriate sexual behavior, and Biden was criticized for failing to blunt attacks on Hill and for not calling witnesses who could have supported her.
It certainly was not his best moment, said former Rep. Pat Schroeder (D-Colo.), one of seven Democratic women who dramatically marched to the room where Senate Democrats were caucusing in 1991 in an attempt to make their case for why the vote on Thomas should be delayed as a result of Hill's accusations. To have railroaded that through and not listened to the other three women and let his colleagues absolutely tear her apart was absolutely horrible.

In an interview with Elle , published Tuesday, Hill noted that Biden last year acknowledged he owed her an apology. But he never took the next step.
He said, I owe her an apology. People were asking, When are you going to apologize to her? Hill told Elle of Biden. Its become sort of a running joke in the household when someone rings the doorbell and were not expecting company. Oh, we say, is that Joe Biden coming to apologize?

(13,488 posts)really not put all my hopes on any one candidate and let the primaries sort it all out.
I have people i feel I like and I have people that I don't like so much.
But the truth is, any potential candidate, even the ones that make me wariest, is a much better option than the fool that's sitting (while getting ready to tweet) on the golden toilet in the white house right now.

(7,408 posts)Name recognition, big time potential donors and backers, and is the most experienced of anyone mentioned. His most important advantage though is that he can basically go live in Iowa, NH and SC and campaign everyday while most other top tier candidates have Senate duties that require them in DC at least half the time.
