Political analyst Bill Schneider on Monday said that the backlash from conservatives to President Trump's original decision last month to find other methods of funding his proposed border wall illustrates how sensitive conservatives are to members of their own political group betraying their platforms.
After Trump seemed poised to sign a spending bill to keep the government open despite it not having his proposed $5 billion in border wall funding, a number of conservatives pushed back at the president. He shortly reversed course and dug in on demanding the funding, leading to a partial government shutdown that has lasted more than two weeks.
"Conservatives have a very keen sense of betrayal. They're always watchful," Schneider told Hill.TV's Joe Concha on "What America's Thinking."
"Remember when the first President Bush raised taxes? That was betrayal," he continued. "Conservatives are more attuned to betrayal than anyone in American politics."

We'll see. I think the far right will stick it out with Trump because they have nothing else.

(12,618 posts)And this is giving the conservatives WAAAYYY too much credit. Does the author really think that they wouldn't get over it and continue to back Trump even with his "betrayal?" Trump has already lied to them numerous times on this issue, originally he said Mexico was going to pay for it. Now nobody even seems to care that he used to insist on that, least of all his base.
At the end of the day, if he abandons the wall, they'll whine for a bit but they'll get over it pretty quick. This article is just more Trump apologist crap trying to make it seem like Trump has good reason to be doing what he's doing. He does not. Unless you count Trump trying to solidify his support in the coming months as a bulwark while the investigations go into high gear a good reason. And that's what this is really about.
