Donald Trump has personally led two negotiations with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. During the first one in late December, he declared that he would be "proud" to shut down the government over his precious border wall. During the second one last week, Trump threatened the shutdown could last for "months or even years" and later bragged to reporters that he "absolutely" said that.
But now that nearly 1 million federal workers are furloughed or working without pay, the national parks have become literal wastelands, and airport chaos is ensuing, Trump's getting skittish and wants his aides to find him a way out of this gigantic mess, according to the Wall Street Journal.
So Trump doesn't want to be seen as capitulating? Well, no shit, Sherlock. Welcome to Politics 101you don't box yourself into an impossible position without having a vision for your endgame and leaving room for a compromise that you can play up as a "win." But instead of taking time to envision his escape in advance, master negotiator Trump went into those meetings guns blazing and delivered a shoot-em-up routine that landed him in a bunker without any backup. Total stable genius.
Even as that Camp David meeting unfolded, instead of tamping down expectations for how this would all resolve, Trump's negotiators asked for even MORE money in their weekend meeting with congressional staffers. In the meantime, his surrogates continue to barricade him in the bunker.
This continues to be the signature campaign issue that he outlined that needs to be fulfilled, former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told the Journal.
Good god, Trump is bad at this. So very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very f*cking miserably bad at this.

Yeah, I can't stop laughing, either lol...
Either he mans up and owns this for everyone, or they all get to own it together. Unless they're all komprom(ised), they owe him not a goddamn thing, and will act accordingly.
Talk about an own-goal smdh heh

So, McTurtle hangs strong hoping that IQ45 hangs strong, or they'll all go swirling down the drain straight to hell.
Oh, and that cackling sound you just heard, that's Speaker Pelosi pulling the stopper out of the drain!

(48,966 posts)By giving that to the Senate to vote on, it is an active counter to Speaker Pelosi's legislation passed, which was the version the Senate had previously improved.
This counter is a ploy for a media offensive that will go something like this: "but, but, see! All the Democrat {sic} Senators voted for OPEN BORDERS! See! Told ya! See!".
It does put McCONnell on the spot to get 50 Senators in line to vote for tRump's request. If he can't do that, then the border wall is dead, Jim.
NB: my speculation only.

Trump aides merely need to orchestrate the following, quietly passing along to Republican members the message that the m*****f***** supports it.
Have the Senate make some stated to be important, but otherwise insignificant change to the bill (or more bold, like fund everything through September 30). Senate passes it overwhelmingly, like 80-15 or so.
Send this modified bill to the House, which also passes it by a huge margin, like 380 - 45
Send it to the president, who signs it, in front of cameras saying how he tried is best, and will continue to work for funding options (like getting Mexico to pay for it).
And then, never, ever talk about it again.
