A boring night is a huge loss for the president.

The president needed a dramatic night.

A boring night — which this was — is a huge loss for him. The status quo is a loser for him, since most of America thinks he’s at fault.

He didn’t change that tonight.

Be happy, this was a good night for the country.

David Axelrod said a couple days ago that the the Oval Office format is the worst format for President Trump. Boy, is that right. It’s scripted. It plays to his woodenness reading a script. He doesn’t get the energy from a crowd. This was the same script he’s been reading from for months. If anything, it was more muddled because his speechwriters dropped a number of the more jarring lies. I think this meant basically nothing politically. At the same time, Pelosi and Schumer actually presented their case pretty clearly and well.

When he realizes he laid a big goose egg tonight, he may try that as a shot across the bow. In a manner of speaking. I won’t put it past him to pull such a stunt, even if.....especially if ....his advisors recommend that he not do it.

He didn't say anything he hasn't already bellowed about in recent weeks and months. He did not change the narrative and he was not at all convincing. Once again, tRump simply proved he's a failure at being President.

That's what I do not understand. You only get so many shots and he just fired a blank on purpose it seems to me.

He tried several things. None of them worked, so he had no choice but to 1) Keep the government closed, or 2) Declare a national emergency.

"I tried. They made me do it."
