Networks got snookered into thinking he was going to announce something big

He got primetime by threatening to have a temper tantrum and declare a national emergency. But he failed to deliver anything new and made no important announcement but merely got to give a free campaign speech to boost support of his base by ramping up fear of immigrants. Wonder if they will be as willing in the future to allow him primetime.

was threatening to create another giant crisis for our democracy through enormous abuse of power, not only grounds for impeachment all by itself but potentially very dangerous to our nation. A national state of emergency would give the president 136 near-dictatorial statutory powers, at least until he was stopped.

The SOE and abuses would be immediately taken to court. But would this SCOTUS rule against him and would the Republican senate finally do its duty under the constitution to check him?

The network biggies know all about how he manages to use them and have been doing a lot to counter and limit it, but in this case they just didn't dare refuse to provide time. And their worst suspicions were proven true, not just last night but before that when Trump said all the wrong things to network anchors he met with. But it was already scheduled, with many millions expected to watch.

On the plus side, the authoritarian's right's "strong man" put on a piss-poor performance for them.

And if a state of emergency was declared they could easily have covered that without airing the pathetic scream for attention.

I'd be happy if they only covered him as often as they cover Democrats.

his with anyone not completely with him already. I can't judge that because NOTHING he could have said would have convinced me ..and I assume that is true for all of us here. Time will tell if this entire show will actually make his position worse. It is my bet that it will, but as in Sleeper, when someone asleep for years is stunned that Ronald Reagan could be President, I would not have believed there was even an infinitesimal chance that the odious Donald Trump would be.

IIRC, he did it without warning. One minute, we could be watching "All in the Family," or "Laugh In," and the next, there was a special announcement. Then, after he yammered, the pundits would have to tell us what he said.

Someone called it government by pique.

Let's remember what happened to Nixon.

PS I haven't seen any "no collusion" tweets in days. Does this mean they're going to be conceding collusion ("but collusion isn't a crime&quot ? Or just a nice distraction for the Con to focus on something else for a while?
