So, lots of you are watching the various post mortems. Thoughts on what happens next?

All of those pundits on CNN, MSNBC, etc - the trump speech seems like it went over like a lead balloon. (from what I've read here and on line - I stopped watching news on TV - pretty much all TV - 10 years ago)

There is a shut down. People are getting hurt, people are needing money, parks are getting trashed. This is real.

What happens next? What does all that high paid brain power think about how this all ends now that the big play was made tonight (that ended up being a dud)?

And what do you think will happen next?

My view - polling on this speech will be terrible, repub lawmakers will start to fear for their political lives, and the Pelosi/Shumer idea will be enacted (separate the issues and open the government with what was proposed in the house)

Trump spent all his political capital tonight and blew it by lying and not making a convincing argument. No way he can try the 'national emergency' ploy now. It make take a little while but Republican support is crumbling as I'm writing this. Perhaps the government will be back open in a week.

The shutdown will end on January 22, so that the Trump administration can collectively shrug on MLK Jr. day on the 21st.
