Rick Wilson: Trump speech "can most accurately be seen as the death twitch of The Wall cult."

The speech can most accurately be seen as the death twitch of The Wall cult. Trump can’t deliver a product, so he’s looking to sell something different.

He said it tonight; the idea of a glorious concrete wall from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico is deader than that lemur he glues on his head every morning. It will, at most, be a fence. This is not what Trump’s supporters voted for. They voted for his sales pitch of a 30-foot concrete wall with laser moats, robot alligators, and minefields, all paid for by Mexico.

Donald Trump, as even the slowest members of the class have now noticed, is a lying liar who lies.

President Veruca Salt demanded his Wall and bet his most fundamental campaign promise on it. He walked himself into a political box canyon of a foolish government shutdown, an untenable demand, and Democrats motivated to hold the line. The speech wasn't the usual trick escape play for the man accustomed to getting away with damn near everything; it was the exact opposite.

The Wall is dead. The shutdown will end. Donald Trump blew it, bigly.

In the end, it didn't matter. It was the fever pitch of the call of the wild. Were details wrong? They didn't care. Here was a man who thought like they did..."no more illegals!" (The inference being that the Democrats wanted illegal immigration, which is not true.) He was so bold, so strong, such a deal maker! If anyone could do it, THE GREAT ONE could! Yay! Hopefully Mexico will pay for it. But if not, he'll find a way!

The fever that spreads among cult members when the leader is on his game and spouts foolishness, but spouts it loudly, with confidence, and with assurances. It MUST be true! It HAS to be!

Not a direct quote, but she basically said that at a time like this, we need to transcend party affiliations and do what's best for the country.

The GOP has largely been burned to the ground...even when Trump is gone, it will be a long time before Wilson, Wallace, Schmidt and the rest can "go home" again, if they can at all.

Wilson is frequently vocal on Twitter. He still identifies himself as a Republican who is attempting to ride out the storm.

It's gonna be a long ride, Rick...although he is smart enough to know that things are not going to simply snap back to the "normal" he remembers prior to Trump.

There have been a ton of Democrats that have been very outspoken - Maxine Waters, Ted Lieu, Adam Schiff and many Democratic leaning pundits - have been just as outspoken.

It's just that the media loves to pit Never Trump Republicans like Schmidt, Wilson, Ana Navarro, etc against pro Trump Republicans and watch the fireworks on TV.

No one, other than Rachel, digs into the Trump/Russia conspiracy with more fervor than she does.

Most of the other cable news anchors do what you suggest. Tweety, Anderson Cooper, Wolf, are the dumbest news anchors on the planet. They and others don't have a clue what the Trump crime family has done, what the Trump campaign has done. I will watch Nicole, Ari Melber, Chris Hayes, Rachel, Don Lemon, and from time to time take a peek at Shep Smith.

Congressional Democrats should be outspoken. We need more Maxines who aren't afraid to push for impeachment.

He was for the invasion of Iraq and Phil Donahue was against it. msnbc fired Donahue and kept Tweety.
I am really surprised that msnbc hasn't fired any anti-Trump anchors.

I remember that when Olbermann, Ratigan, Brashear, Harris/Perry, Uygur,Ed Schultz got fired they were popular. They didn't get fired because of poor ratings, and msnbc is supposed to be liberal, ehh? At least it puts a progressive slant to the right wing narratives, and yes several anchors are straying from the narrative. They better be careful.

So they come at this from a different perspective, and have different goals.

Wallace and Wilson & Scarborough are media pundits. They are freer just to criticize without an end goal. Schiff's goal, for example, has been to shine a light on the sham that was the House of Rep so-called "investigation" run by Devin Nunes. He usually didn't get off track and start talking about Trump's outrageous behavior or comments that didn't relate to the investigation.

But you are right...they sure have stepped up to the plate to shine a light on Trump's and the Republican Party's outrageous behavior and statements at times. Especially Schiff, who appeared on tv a LOT, to spread what he knew about the so-called investigation.

Democrats now have people who can change the right wing narratives. Speaker Pelosi can call a press conference and the M$M will show up.
Al Franken was one who could change the narrative, that's why they took him out.
Ocasio-Cortez can change the narrative, we need to watch her back, they are already trying to take her out.

The M$M is not our friend, if it were impartial, Trump would be impeached by now.

Donald Trump has been a political escape artist since the beginnings of his shady, scummy, shiftless life. From his spurious (see what I did there?) evasion of the Vietnam draft to his serial bankruptcies and business failures, his wrecked marriages, and his current reign of misrule, Donald Trump’s ability to detonate a media IED to distract from his troubles has always served him well.
