They can pretend all day long that he can't put an end to this, but political junkies like us know better.

(52,126 posts)but is there enough in the senate to override a veto?
obviously mcturtle is aiding and abetting donnie's ransom strategy, but it's not clear to me that it's all within donnie's control.

(4,138 posts)but Moscow Mitch wants you to think drugs are coming across the border by desperate people in caravans.

(52,126 posts)the senate voted on it in december, we have a new congress as of january 3, so the senate would have to pass it again.
the new senate is slightly more republican, and now that donnie has made more of a stink about the wall, it's not clear to me that the bill would pass the new senate at all, but even if it could, i rather doubt there are currently enough votes for an override.

What has changed?

(1,262 posts)Donald Trump and the political action committees for Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Lindsey Graham, John Kasich and John McCain accepted $7.35 million in contributions from a Ukrainian-born oligarch who is the business partner of two of Russian president Vladimir Putin's favorite oligarchs and a Russian government bank.

It was a good investment for the oligarch:
"... Republicans obstructed the Obama administrations attempts to warn states and the public about Russian interference in the 2016 election ... Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in particular threatened to label any effort by the White House to challenge the Russians publicly an act of partisan politics.

(6,709 posts)Senate passed a spending bill that tRump said he would sign, then limpballs and coultergeist screeched about it and tRump reneged. still nothing can pass w/o a signature

(18,613 posts)As Senate leader, if he decided Trump had to go I'm sure he could get at least 22 Republicans to join Democrats to convict Trump in an impeachment.
This jerk is the linchpin for the future of the country.

Don't let Orange Foolius off the hook.

(128,527 posts)because the minute he vetoes these spending (appropriations) bills, assuming Turtle allows them to be voted on and they pass, then it is on HIM. Eddie Munster never allowed the original CR to come for a vote in the House before he flew off to be with Grandpa.
If Congress has enough to override, then they will need to do that. But the legislation has to get to the President first.
This thing they started doing since the teabaggers had taken over, where they invoked the "Hastert Rule" ("majority of the GOP majority" ) meaning not even allowing bills to come to the floor that they know have been "whipped" to have bipartisan support to pass but wouldn't pass with ONLY GOP votes, is just insane bullshit that had pretty much eliminated what they call "regular order". Those days are over (at least in the House).

(128,527 posts)the House appropriations bills as they are received, so they are on the Senate calendar for consideration/amendment/debate/vote.
He refuses to do it. And does so in spite of the fact that the language in these bills is almost identical (I expect except for dates) to what he already had the Senate pass just last month.

Otherwise, voters will teach them another lesson in surfing a blue wave.
