TV Ratings: Democrats' Response to Trump Speech Outdraws President in Early Numbers

President Trump's televised Oval Office address on immigration Tuesday drew a big audience. The response from Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer drew a slightly bigger audience, at least according to preliminary figures.

The quarter hour (9-9:15 p.m. ET) containing the president's speech drew a combined 28.1 household rating in metered markets on ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, CNN, Fox News and NBC. The following 15 minutes, including analysis and the Pelosi-Schumer rebuttal, averaged 29.3 across those same networks, a bump of about 4 percent.

Complete ratings for the speech and response will be available later in the day.

I would love to see every republican get asked this question over and over. Why did the Democratic reply get better ratings than the president?

This has to drive Donny nuts

be a little more weighted in Trump's direction. I seem to remember hearing that the overnights reflect the big cities and not the rural areas. Maybe I am remember wrong, or I heard wrong at the time. But if the rural areas come in last then that would probably push Trump's numbers up.

Still, it is amazing that we even came close to his level of viewership, given that he is in the White House.
