Jahana Hayes was elected to Congress in November, replacing outgoing Representative Elizabeth Esty. Shes the first African American woman ever elected to Congress from Connecticut.
She was born in Waterbury and grew up in public housing projects. Shes earned three degrees associates, bachelors, and masters.
In 2015 she was the National JFK Teacher of the Year and was honored by President Barack Obama. A year later was Connecticut Teacher of the Year.
Here's Obama celebrating her National award in 2015 in her home town of Waterbury (there's a 27 minute version on youtube if anyone wants to see more of her and President Obama):

I remember when he was running against Linda McMahon, there was a debate at WFSB. She showed up in a chauffeured limousine with tinted windows. He showed up in his beat up family station wagon with his wife driving!

(4,112 posts)He's well-known for his modesty, and it's not a ruse in any way. McMahon is vile. Chris, I adore. I'd love to see him run for President in a few years, and Jahana would be a great successor as Senator.
