Ocasio-Cortez responds to Joe Lieberman's criticisms: 'New party, who dis?'

BY MORGAN GSTALTER - 01/11/19 08:30 AM EST

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Thursday fired back at former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) who said he hopes she is not the future of the Democratic Party.

Ocasio-Cortez fired back in a tweet asking, “New party, who dis?”

Lieberman, a former Democrat who was the party's vice presidential nominee in the 2000 election, argued that the New York progressive should not be the center of the modern Democratic Party.

“With all respect, I certainly hope she’s not the future and I don’t believe she is," Lieberman said told host Neil Cavuto on Fox Business News.

and remember when Lieberman himself declared that he finished in a three way tie for third in NH ... except he got about 1 point less than Clark and Edwards, who really were in a TWO way tie for third. Meaning Lieberman, who spent most of the previous month in NH (blowing off competing in Iowa) came in third in what he had actually hoped would be his break through moment.

His performance as VP during the campaign was pitiful, he is a disgrace as a politician, and most probably as a person.

Not a single person does. It's also a futile point to discuss. Kind of like "is so and so the next Michael Jordan?" You will know the answer to that when analysts start inserting a different name where Jordans is/was. Pretty simple.

Right now AOC is someone who is propped up by the media as a point of division. Her story from here is up to her. I think it's going to be fun to watch.

Saw one tweet earlier today that praised her "cheerful fearlessness".

AOC might have a few rough edges, but Lieberman is and was a useless wanker who never did the party much good. In fact, IIRC, he ran for the Senate under the "Lieberman for Connecticut" party when he lost the Dem primary in that state. So fuck him.

Simply put, Dems need to court progressives like AOC - NOT "centrists" like Lieberman..

We are a diverse party and have room for - and need - progressives and centrists. While Ocasio-Cortez is great for her district, she wouldn't stand a chance in many parts of the country where Democrats are more centrist.

The party needs to court all kinds of Democrats, not just those who appeal to one wing of the party.

Fri Jan 11, 2019, 01:24 PM
Jan 2019

In 2008 he campaigned with his friend and former Senate John McCain, who had even considered him as a potential running mate. When Sarah Palin got the nod, her unique lack of qualifications was no deterrent to Lieberman, McCain's health issues notwithstanding. His willingness to put Palin a heart beat away from the presidency spoke volumes then. And it speaks volumes now, as an ill-advised turncoat who somehow sees himself as qualified to envision what the future of the Democratic party should or should not be.
