Hes always been cunning and mean, and hes a con man, totally sold on his own inflated opinion of himself and of everyone else being stupidly gullible. He knows how he can best manipulate low intelligence, greedy people because deep down hes just like them.
And it works. He is a master at it, just like he knew himself to be. But, and this is his downfall, he never understood anyone who isnt either low intelligence, greedy or gullible. He just assumed those people were in the minority and could easily be dismissed, mocked and overcome. As it turns out he underestimated the numbers of people who are intelligent enough to see what he is. And the fact he keeps repeating the con again and again long after hes been defeated is a sign of his inability to learn from his own mistakes. Its also a sign of a limited intelligence because of the absence of any rational reasoning ability. Hes a prime example of someone who has made up his mind and who just gets confused if something doesnt fit into his pre-conceived, unbendable opinions.
In the end he will be defeated by his own ignorance of human nature. But he wont learn anything useful, just like he never learned in 7 decades. At best he will die a bitter old man feeling he was cheated of his rightful rewards, plotting his vengeful comeback.

(15,359 posts)Because deep down, he's just like them.
This is something on the right I've noticed that has no real counterpart on the left. Individual or Group B is at point X on the right side of the political spectrum. He looks further right and he sees Individuals or Group C. B is a lot like C so B understands them well, but C believes in something a little too wacky for B's tastes. B could leave it well enough alone or maybe help C get over it, but instead, B sees a market to make money off of C, creating a product or program or whatever, that plays off C's fears. Thus you get all the ads about gold and whatnot when Glen Beck was still big, for example.
Why start at B? Because further left of B is Individual or Group A doing the exact same thing to B that B is doing to C (who's doing it to D who's doing it to E and so on).

(53,410 posts)That the Left is manipulating Trump in the same way he manipulates his base?

(15,359 posts)And in general conservatives are fine exploiting the fears of their fellow conservatives to make a buck.

(32,356 posts)I mean he literally cannot infer or project anything. It goes like this: "If I say A and if I do B, then C might happen. Or it might not. Maybe D will happen instead and that would be a big problem." It's the kind of thinking we all do as adults, and Cheeto literally cannot think that way.
I'm pretty sure it's a sign of mental aberration. My sister lacks the same planning ability and she's been diagnosed with FTD - fronto-temporal dementia.

(267,827 posts)He is completely and totally irrational. It's all about him being important, dominant - the boss. Hence Schumer and Pelosi were able to bait him into owning the shutdown.
