I remember a bunch of stuff when I was a kid, about how it was all a "great big melting pot" and how influences from various cultures come together and blend with one another, and that's America, etc.

I always kinda thought "that's great; what do the American Indians think?" but whatever.

Taken from the perspective of the Indians, illegal immigration very definitely changed the culture.

Retired to a Southwestern city of about 20k almost all anglo's. Talk about culture shock,milk toast. Now living in one of the most diverse cities in the world. Lovin it,and now with a Dem controlled State and county Government,we will get our lousy School system fixed and our Homeless Families in affordable housing.

One of the first bills in the state legislature is,Medicare for all residents. And this is all because of our Brown Skinned Immigrants and their Political Clout.

And even the Native Americans migrated to North America, long, long ago. I remind everyone who attacks immigration of that. For me, that fact ends the discussion altogether.

Alien is a legal term that the INS uses. When people get their INS ID it says "Resident Alien" on it. So the right wingers pick up on it because as you said, it sound bad. Definitely "Other", weird, not of this place type of language.

Is he afraid of people who speaker languages other than English?

Does he believe there is some genuine American culture whose purity is threatened by people who weren't born here?
