They were a minority and identified with each other by looking alike and read the same literature listened to the same music and hung around together.

What you describe is conforming and of course those who didn't meet the standards were no doubt marginalized...sometimes I envision a world where you can just be who you want but it never seems to happen. Social norms were enforced just as viciously no doubt by the counter culture as within the 'square' culture. But I was not present and not part of it.

Just drop the word nonconformist and discuss what they were about. It wasn't about nonconformity. It was doing something, it was action, it was building a movement. It was change. It was about turning the norms on their head. It was about bringing in a new and better word. It was listening to your inner self. It was doing what you thought you should do without caring what others taught you.

It was about a new freedom and a desire to be and share with others who felt and thought the same way, thus the identity in dress and music and thought.

It wasn't about not being something, it was about being something new.

or anything close to it. But there seem to be something in humans that breeds conformity even in the midst of revolution.

about her...she is a newbie...let her be for a while...she needs some (years) experience before she can assume a leadership position. I think she shows promise. But let it go. I was going to trash her name but kind of enjoy hearing from her. The dance thing was awesome. I honestly think (not you) some of her supporters will cause her trouble if they continue to attempt to shove this talented young lady down people's throats...as time goes by, most will like her just fine.

As I've said, I hope she's savvy and focused enough not to get herself caught up in the increasingly breathless hype created by some of her more adoring fans, many of whom behave more like a cult than a constituency.

I see Democrats looking for a savior...Beto, Bernie...etc. We must save ourselves.

But I don't care if she connects with people, I don't care if she's popular, I don't care if she's entertaining, I don't care if she is technologically savvy. A lot of people fit that criteria good and bad. All I want to know is if she can do her job, and that waits to be seen. I have no way of knowing at this point.

Different players, with different motivations say we the people mean nothing.
