TPM - major asshole alert "WH Economist: Fed Workers Actually 'Better Off'"

(do these people really WANT us to loathe them as much as they obviously hate themselves?)

Federal workers who are without pay as the government shutdown drags on actually have it pretty good, according to Kevin Hassett, the chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

He told PBS’ “NewsHour” Thursday that a lot of federal employees were already planning to take time off between Christmas and the New Year — and so the government shutdown essentially gives them a vacation for free.

“A huge share of government workers were gonna to take vacation days, say, between Christmas and New Year’s,” Hassett said. “And then we have a shutdown, and so they can’t go to work, and so then they have the vacation, but they don’t have to use their vacation days.”

He added: “And then they come back, and then they get their back pay. Then they’re, in some sense they’re better off.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) condemned the comments Friday afternoon:

How out of touch must @WhiteHouse Economic Adviser Kevin Hassett be to say this about government workers not receiving a paycheck today?

“In some sense, they're better off.”

Tell that to the parents who need to pay their bills, pay off loans, feed their families. #TrumpShutdown

And it was so much fun being out of work that a couple of years after they called me back they laid me off again*!

Woo hoo!

*actually the second time turned out to be a good thing - within six weeks I got a better job at about 20% higher pay and was still eligible for four more weeks of severance pay (not to mention the settlement after I sued their asses)

by the end of the year, then they got hosed. They could have donated that time to their agency's leave bank. Instead, it is now gone.

13. Is he saying all the fed employees can stay at home and will get back pay for it all?

Because his reasoning would need that to be true, whether or not they had booked vacation.
