How many Republican Senators are against the "shutdown"?

The last I had heard, there were 3 or 4 that had sided with the Democrats to request that the government be re-opened.

I saw Lisa Murkowski on C-SPAN, speak out against the shutdown. Her state needs the government.

This could get very serious, very quickly, if it were to go on for three more weeks. Perhaps enough for The trump to declare a "national emergency" and to declare "martial law" in a couple of cities? Nobody knows how far or how fast this could deteriorate.

Somebody needs to lock Mitch McConnell in a dark room with no windows. Then, throw away the key and put his photo on a milk carton.

Their mantra of "less government" must be proven no matter how dire the outcome.

It's not just trumpffts shutdown, its the republicans shut down.

Sort of like, "I think I'll just remove all the troops from Syria today..."

Such long-term and strategic thinkers.

Sometimes I wonder whether the posters that suggest that martial law might be declared know what martial law is.

Here's what the Supreme Court has said about martial law and the circumstances when it might be declared:

"If, in foreign invasion or civil war, the courts are actually closed, and it is impossible to administer criminal justice according to law, then, on the theatre of active military operations, where war really prevails, there is a necessity to furnish a substitute for the civil authority, thus overthrown, to preserve the safety of the army and society; and as no power is left but the military, it is allowed to govern by martial rule until the laws can have their free course. As necessity creates the rule, so it limits its duration; for, if this government is continued after the courts are reinstated, it is a gross usurpation of power. Martial rule can never exist where the courts are open, and in the proper and unobstructed exercise of their jurisdiction. It is also confined to the locality of actual war."
