Dear Nathan Phillips, please accept my apologies for the way you were treated.

I was moved by your stoicism as you faced down that red-hatted trash who chose to confront you for no good reason.

While I can't say anything to make this any better, because it is, indeed, deplorable, I CAN say how very sorry I am that you had to endure that. As an old guy myself, I absolutely understand how such a situation was frightening to you; it would frighten me as well. I can only imagine how much more difficult it must be when your wife can't be there and you had to face them alone. I can only imagine how hurtful it must feel to be treated that way for no better reason than who you are as a human.

I hope you get to see and feel what I have no doubt will be millions of people who are on your side and wish you nothing but the very best.

What you put out into the universe you get back 10 fold, and what those racist pseudo-Christians put out there was wretched and racist. I'm half Native-American myself, and I don't see things getting much better for my people. But we will endure. We have to.

works better than punishment.

The school should invite a native educator to give a few classes on native history and culture.

I bet most of their hearts would open.

It looks like the others were following the lead of a couple of bullies.

I sent an e-mail to the school and a copy of that e-mail to the Covington Diocese suggesting that same thing. Since both the school and the Diocese are not available for comments, I'd say I was definitely NOT THE ONLY ONE. These boys presented their school and their faith in a very disgusting light on the world stage today. The young man with the insolent look on his face blocking Mr. Phillips path deserves to be prosecuted for his actions and attitude. A few hundred hours of community service after completing an ethnic diversity training might help. Actually, I told the school and the Diocese that I felt that training needed to start immediately.

Catholic Conference of Kentucky Representing the Roman Catholic Church and Kentucky's dioceses in public policy matters.

After 33 comments ripping into their "statement" in regard to what happen has now closed off their comment section.

I guess they didn't like what people were posting there

about what to do with her own body, than they probably would not have any respect for a Native American veteran elder. It all meshes together. What pisses me off is how some ultra-leftists butt-hole gas about Americans now being the least racist ever and incidents like these seem to happen more and more. Oh but we need to watch out for that liberal "identity politics", grrrrr.

someone's personal struggle or a story about a beloved pet traversing the rainbow bridge. This story is a different level. The malevolence of these young people is bad, really bad. But what is so disquieting and innately sad is that they are probably not a rarity. They are a bi-product of the cult of hate that many OP's touch on every day. We on DU tend to argue incessantly about stupid things such as whether federal employees are sheep or whether some political figure passes our personal litmus test. But this....this......is what we need to recognize. A certain percentage of this country has fostered an environment that ensures their legacy of hatred and privilege will be passed on to the next generation. Rest assured, this school will put on its best face and try to calm the seas, but they are far from alone. With a wink and a nod, it will be business as usual in many venues.

This saddens me. I think Nathan Phillips saw that today. The detention of immigrants and separation of their families is a horrific thing to contemplate. Selective law enforcement is a difficult thing to contemplate. Voter suppression....well... you get the idea. But when we are slapped in the face that a new generation of young people, supposedly being allowed to absorb a somehow superior education than they would receive in public schools is revealed to be completely reviled, completely insensitive to those people who founded these lands and brazenly so enamored with their belief in their own power and legitimacy is a travesty that cuts to the quick.

Nathan Phillips saw the truth today and was moved to tears. So was I.

How dare they. I hope they pay for their actions. I hope everyone who taught them to be this way and who enabled them pay for their actions.
