Do Democrats need to change their "narrative"?

First of all, under no circumstances can they negotiate anything so long as our people are being held hostage. Open our government and we can talk about any issue they like.

So long as they keep our government shut down, there can be no negotiation.

Take a stand and speak clearly.

3. I agree. Trump is trying to shift the narrative and put blame on democrats.

Democratic leaders seem to be aware of that. Using the term "hostage taking" is effective, because that is what Trump is doing. Trump is also manipulating government to mitigate the political damage to him. The man is a soulless creep that will do anything, regardless of how immoral.

They just need to be more aggressive in pushing it. We cannot negotiate with terrorists.

Is using the word "shakedown" instead of "shutdown" as in "What started out as a Republican shutdown has now become Trump's shakedown. Democrats do not pay ransoms nor do they negotiate with terrorists."

"shakedown", "ransoms", "terrorists"...

They need to be more aggressive, in my opinion.

Trump promised jobs. He's just shoved almost a million people out on the streets.

Dems are doing fine. Trump's media moment is meaningless unless he re-opens the gov't.

I do not hear that statement much at all. I believe Schumer and Pelosi should say it more in as many press scrum or TV appearances as they can. Get that message out there to piss off the right.

Talk about how court battles will takes years, and then let Trump state from his catbird seat that he will seize the land using his military eminent domain power and force the issue making court suits illegal.

Let's make the republicans fight with each other where ever possible.

16. The longer the shutdown lasts, the more important it is for the dems to control the narrative.

Donald is out there everyday blaming the dems & like it or not, he has a bigger voice. I've already seen friends posting cartoons/articles depicting a 'both sides are responsible for the shutdown' message. (On FB, not DU.) We must respond when we see this or that narrative will start to take over. People are lazy thinkers & a lot of them are mis/un-informed. Yesterday there was a thread about a report that found a huge number of voters didn't know that Trump came from a wealthy family.

Debunk any story/cartoon that the shutdown is the democrats fault.

1. The GOP controlled both chambers of Congress since 2016. Where was the emergency for the wall then? Oh that's right, the emergency then was giving giant tax cuts to the 1%.

2. The shutdown started on December 22, when the GOP still controlled both chambers of Congress.

3. Why won't Moscow Mitch bring funding legislation to the floor? Because Donald has told him he won't sign it without his 5 billion dollar slush fund.

4. If the dems cave & give Donald his wall this time, what will he shutdown the government over next time? Cutting social security? Another slush fund for his cronies, only this one much bigger than $5 billion? Renaming the White House to Trump Tower DC? Don't laugh.

Yesterday Donald commented that if he reopens the government it might not be so easy to shut it down again, proof that he doesn't have a problem holding our government hostage to get his way. The great negotiator cannot get a bill passed without shutting down the entire government. And people still support this fucking loser. If I weren't so GD pissed off at them I'd feel sorry for how pathetic they are.
