Pelosi's powerful stance has prevented Schumer from looking like a wimp in

the Senate. The criticism has always been that he was too eager to give in to McConnell Stay the course Democrats and let Individual-1 know that it is a NEW DAY!

Is a wimp. I do know he tried to save Democratic seats in the Senate.

Schumer is smart enough to know that Pelosi has the power and is using it well. I applaud him for staying strong with Pelosi.

I also do not think it is right to diss one of our Leaders. A strong man is always smart to allow a woman to lead when she is clearly winning. Only a weak man would stand in her way.

Understand, this is my opinion.

You might not have meant it, but the underlying meaning is that a man naturally holds the power unless he concedes it.

To jump on all slight (very slight) use of some words is 1970 scolding. We are all in this together. Our basic core values are similar. We like each other. I often get dinged because I don’t like Kirstin Gillibrand. I was not a fan before Al Franken and I am still not a fan. I do not believe she is a worthy Presidential candidate. If, by some miracle, she becomes our candidate, I will have some serious soul-searching to do. Oops, I just went off subject. So naughty of me. 😏

When someone is posting on DU it's not meant to be on a level of writing your PhD thesis. I know I don't want to spend hours agonizing over if my selection of words in a response to a post are perfect. It's an internet discussion board. We have serious problems in this country and we need to stop picking apart the things that are insignificant.

It's a poor choice of words because of what the word "allow" MEANS.

I don't think the act of pointing that out is jumping on somebody, or refusing to recognize that we're all on the same side, or ignoring the entirety of a post. It's actually trying to be helpful to someone on our side, by pointing out the automatic position that the world assigns to men, and how unconsciously we perpetuate it. Words mean things.

You can take the previous comment as misogynist, or not. Schumer surrendered his ego to the greater good of the party and the country. He did the right thing.

The Senate is much more tricky because we need to obtain republican votes in order to prevail, and that is very difficult in this environment, with so many republicans compromised by the person in the WH

Jan 2019

Some may have thought Reid as a wimp but the boxer in him meant he could pull a fake at the right time in order to wield his big boxing glove and throw a left hook to score.

IMHO, Schumer really does not have the full grasp of the obscure but often powerful rules of the Senate. He also has the unfortunate circumstance of where he is from (and any past dealings with the current occupant of the WH), as well as his past relationship with the somewhat slimey Steven Solarz.

I wish Leahy could have held this position although it's possible he declined. He is the Senate's most senior member (of either party) and even predates by a decade, the GOP's most senior tyrannical trio of Grassley, McConnell, and Shelby (although Shelby was originally a dixicrat and switched parties).

your senior (D) members in addition to Schumer and Leahy are Murray, Durbin, and Feinstein (all coming into the Senate in the '90s), so the back bench is not that deep anymore. It's the era where you sortof miss a Tom Harkin or even a Joe Biden, who each has the same type of institutional knowledge that Leahy has.

I like Chuck, he means well and he has done good work. But I don’t think he is well-suited for this moment.
Chuck’s instinct is to compromise- as he did with the GOP judge approvals in Sept/Oct.

Nancy realizes you cannot compromise with those who wish to destroy you. Nancy’s backbone has stiffened Chuck’s backbone. Together they are doing good work. But if I have to choose one to give the credit to, I pick Nancy.
