(17,972 posts)Is a wimp. I do know he tried to save Democratic seats in the Senate.
Schumer is smart enough to know that Pelosi has the power and is using it well. I applaud him for staying strong with Pelosi.
I also do not think it is right to diss one of our Leaders. A strong man is always smart to allow a woman to lead when she is clearly winning. Only a weak man would stand in her way.
Understand, this is my opinion.

I think you took 2 words out of the context of my post.

(11,238 posts)You might not have meant it, but the underlying meaning is that a man naturally holds the power unless he concedes it.

(8,190 posts)of the entire post, I think it was a poor choice of words rather than any misogynistic meaning.
I just get tired of everyone at DU jumping on each other at the slightest misstep instead of recognizing that we are all on the same side.

(6,747 posts)To jump on all slight (very slight) use of some words is 1970 scolding. We are all in this together. Our basic core values are similar. We like each other. I often get dinged because I dont like Kirstin Gillibrand. I was not a fan before Al Franken and I am still not a fan. I do not believe she is a worthy Presidential candidate. If, by some miracle, she becomes our candidate, I will have some serious soul-searching to do. Oops, I just went off subject. So naughty of me. 😏

(15,503 posts)When someone is posting on DU it's not meant to be on a level of writing your PhD thesis. I know I don't want to spend hours agonizing over if my selection of words in a response to a post are perfect. It's an internet discussion board. We have serious problems in this country and we need to stop picking apart the things that are insignificant.
Demit
(11,238 posts)It's a poor choice of words because of what the word "allow" MEANS.
I don't think the act of pointing that out is jumping on somebody, or refusing to recognize that we're all on the same side, or ignoring the entirety of a post. It's actually trying to be helpful to someone on our side, by pointing out the automatic position that the world assigns to men, and how unconsciously we perpetuate it. Words mean things.
I didnt intend to jump on anyone, but Ive been a woman in this world a long time.
I dont like men allowing women the right to do any damn thing.

(17,972 posts)On the rest of my post about Schumer being a man who stands beside a strong woman.?
Eyeball_Kid
(7,410 posts)he takes a back seat to the tactic that males must dominate in order to win.
You can take the previous comment as misogynist, or not. Schumer surrendered his ego to the greater good of the party and the country. He did the right thing.

(91,967 posts)The Senate is much more tricky because we need to obtain republican votes in order to prevail, and that is very difficult in this environment, with so many republicans compromised by the person in the WH

(127,331 posts)Some may have thought Reid as a wimp but the boxer in him meant he could pull a fake at the right time in order to wield his big boxing glove and throw a left hook to score.
IMHO, Schumer really does not have the full grasp of the obscure but often powerful rules of the Senate. He also has the unfortunate circumstance of where he is from (and any past dealings with the current occupant of the WH), as well as his past relationship with the somewhat slimey Steven Solarz.
I wish Leahy could have held this position although it's possible he declined. He is the Senate's most senior member (of either party) and even predates by a decade, the GOP's most senior tyrannical trio of Grassley, McConnell, and Shelby (although Shelby was originally a dixicrat and switched parties).

(7,888 posts)I also think he was an effective leader.
If you are correct in that Schumer "really does not have the full grasp of the obscure but often powerful rules of the Senate", our hopes of checking DT are in danger of failure.
True Blue American
(17,972 posts)On the other hand McConnell is not strong. He can not even stand up to Trump and that is his job.
BumRushDaShow
(127,331 posts)your senior (D) members in addition to Schumer and Leahy are Murray, Durbin, and Feinstein (all coming into the Senate in the '90s), so the back bench is not that deep anymore. It's the era where you sortof miss a Tom Harkin or even a Joe Biden, who each has the same type of institutional knowledge that Leahy has.

(6,916 posts)I like Chuck, he means well and he has done good work. But I dont think he is well-suited for this moment.
Chucks instinct is to compromise- as he did with the GOP judge approvals in Sept/Oct.
Nancy realizes you cannot compromise with those who wish to destroy you. Nancys backbone has stiffened Chucks backbone. Together they are doing good work. But if I have to choose one to give the credit to, I pick Nancy.
Demsrule86
(68,355 posts)is one thing, you have to have that at the right times...hostage taking is a different situation. Thus support Democrats and please stop bashing Schumer with unnamed sources that you claim to have been close to 'Chuck'. Calling him Chuck in this matter is also what Trump does.

(42,770 posts)What you are saying...but wondering about our rule not to trash Dems is so selective. Not ok to criticize Pelosi but ok to criticize Dems who voted against her. Ok to criticize Gillibrand but not ok to criticize Franken?

Some are taking it as something to divide us.
All I have to say is go Speaker Pelosi, go leader Schumer.
I have seen no indication that Schumer is wimping out, there are several GOP Senators who are moving our way.

(68,355 posts)praise for both? Schumer has moderates like Manchin to deal with and is holding his caucus together which is not easy. I adore both Pelosi and Schumer...they are doing a great job with limited power.
