A guide to the California Democrats policy platform.

Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) will run for president proposing a nearly $3 trillion tax plan, billions in tax credits to low-income renters, a Medicare-for-all health-care system, and a reduction in cash bail for inmates charged with criminal offenses, her aides said.
Harris announced her candidacy Monday.
Aides said Harriss platform will incorporate Sen. Bernie Sanderss Medicare-for-all health-care proposal, while also pushing enormous tax relief intended to help low-income renters and boost incomes for working-class families.
In that combination, Harris appears to be unique. Several other liberal presidential candidates favor Medicare for all and new government spending programs. For instance, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) will tout her plan to create a universal paid leave program, while Julián Castro, who was an official in the Obama administration, will propose universal prekindergarten, funded by the federal government.

(8,745 posts)I'm concerned that she has never explained why she failed to prosecute Trumps Secretary of the Treasur, Steve Mnuchin. He served as CEO of OneWest from 2009 to 2015. An internal memo from Kamala's office was published, showing that prosecutors had found over a thousand violations of foreclosure laws by his bank during that time, and predicted that further investigation would uncover many thousands more.
Despite this, Harris declined to prosecute and refused to provide a rationale. Coincidentally, she accepted a $2,000 donation from Mnuchin for her 2016 run - the only Democratic donation he made.
When there are candidates like Warren and Sanders to consider, I would rather put forward someone who will put corporate thievery at the center of their campaign - instead of sweeping it under the rug.

Won't stop folks from trying, I suppose.

(8,745 posts)Not sure how this qualifies as old news. These stories are from 2017 and it's only been a few weeks into 2019.
If these troubles have been dealt with, I would love to hear about it. I have no personal animus towards Harris. In fact, she seems like a decent person and an excellent voice in the Senate.
I'm just not sure if she's the best choice out of several excellent choices at this stage in the game. So if you have information that could convince me otherwise, I'm all ears.

You won't get me arguing any of that. I'm weary of it. I'm almost completely focused on removing Trump from office. I don't have a bit of concern about Kamala based on this. I'm going to make sure I wear that on my sleeve.
I'm not here for this.

(8,908 posts)Frankly I'm not for any more tax cuts that aren't paid for by getting our tax scam money back first. Reversing the legislative theft orchestrated by Trump and Republicans for those who needed it least is near the top of my wish list.
