Trump has no intention of re-opening the Government.

At least anytime soon. My view is that he sees this as a successful diversion and delay of the Mueller investigation.

We all know that the modern GOP (and what a contradiction that phrase is!!) hates the idea of a Government that regulates the rich in any way.

The GOP wants the protection of the US military because the business interests of the 1% demand it, but the GOP has no use for social service programs.

The GOP is the party of the rich.

If you have to wait 3-4 hours at security, the system can't work. That might happen very soon. I think the house should pass a bill to pay all airport and airline related folks and see if McConnell will bring it up.

NFL has a waiver signed by host city to pick up the security tab, and the event is considered by the government to be second to (ironically enough) the State of the Union Address in terms of its threat rating.

If recent superbowl's are any indication, the Secret Service, FBI, TSA, ICE, and Customs and Border Protection in addition to city police and county sheriff's departments are all involved. Last year, the direct-dollar sum for security was just over $7 million.

Given that this year's even takes place in the city with the busiest airport in the US, the cost could be even higher.

But my reason is slightly different. His main goal is to keep pushing hard to follow his campaign promises. He is many things (narcissistic, stubborn, rude, heartless etc) but he is not stupid. He correctly has concluded that his base will jump off his ship in droves if he caves on campaign promises and then his chance of re-election is zero to none.

Therefore I see no chance he caves on the Wall and opens the government. Working through McFconnell has a better chance.

The point is Trump is aware that only hope he has of re-election is to hold on to his base.
If there is even a small perception that he is caving on his campaign promises, he is toast.
Which is why I do not expect him to open the gov't until Jan 2021 unless forced by congress.
