This seems like a good time to post (again) about opportunity costs.

Opportunity costs represent the benefits missed out on when choosing one alternative over another.

When Putin and the electoral college (not the voters) chose Trump, this country inherited an identifiable direct cost. That much is obvious. This administration is a fucking mess, and therefore, our country is a fucking mess.

What is not so apparent is the opportunity cost under Trump. Since the sane people in this government have to spend their time attempting to mitigate Trump's mess, pretty much everything else is put aside. There is no moving forward. There is no improvement. There is no changing with the times. There is no advancement.

Any attempt at advancement will be struck down unless it meets Trump's dark agenda.

Every moment is spent trying to keep the orange bully at bay. We may win that battle eventually, but as of today, we have 2 years of shit to clean up, and 2 years of egregious opportunity costs.
