Trump tweets 40 times on Day 30 of shutdown
President Donald Trump rung in Day 30 of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, as well as the two-year anniversary of his tenure in the Oval Office, with a mammoth 40 posts to his Twitter feed over the course of Sunday.
The presidents day on his favored social media platform began as most do with some boasting about the state of the American economy, accompanied by lamentations over its perceived lack of coverage by members of the news media. Through the dizzying day, he would cover a variety of topics with his tweets and assorted retweets, even landing in the world of sports late in the evening.
Always heard that as President, its all about the economy! Well, we have one of the best economies in the history of our Country, Trump wrote online at 7:40 a.m. Big GDP, lowest unemployment, companies coming back to the U.S. in BIG numbers, great new trade deals happening, & more. But LITTLE media mention!

According to CNBC:
If the shutdown lasts two more weeks, the cost to the economy will exceed price of Trump's wall

If the government shutdown lasts another two weeks, the total cost to the U.S. economy would exceed the price of building the proposed border wall.
According to an estimate by S&P Global Ratings, it will only take another two weeks to cost the economy more than $6 billion, exceeding the $5.7 billion that President Donald Trump demanded to fund his proposed border wall. The U.S. economy will have lost $3.6 billion by Friday, according to S&P.
"We estimated that this shutdown could shave approximately $1.2 billion off real GDP in the quarter for each week that part of the government is closed. That may seem like pennies for the world's biggest economy, but it means a lot to those workers trying to cover their household costs without their paychecks," Beth Ann Bovino, S&P's chief U.S. economist, said in a note on Friday.

These estimates do not include the costs of increased drug-related crime, resulting from rampant smuggling on EVERY coastline of the USA, because Teflon Don disabled the US Coast Guard.
With the IRS also working with a skeleton crew, the money will be hard to follow, after the FBI is able to resume a fully functional status.
According to MSNBC, initially, Trump took full responsibility for the shutdown:
Its far too late for Trump to avoid blame for his own shutdown

In the news article this tweet was publicized by Donald J. Trump.
I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country dont want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country. So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. Im not going to blame you for it
. I will take the mantle of shutting down.

(21,676 posts)The 5.7 billion will build a section of the wall. The total cost, not including the cost on eminent domain and the cost to the environment is over 20 billion. It isn't only about the money.

(15,235 posts)recently, I read a news source that claimed it is costing over a billion dollars a week; but I could not find the specific link yesterday. Still, plenty of online sources are focusing on the ACTUAL expenses linked directly to the Government Shutdown. Some news involves the massive suffering THE SHUTDOWN TRUMP REPEATEDLY TOOK CREDIT FOR INITIATING, TO OBTAIN AN INCREASINGLY UNPOPULAR "WALL."

(1,706 posts)some say it cannot be done for less than 80 billion and probably over 100 and will take over a decade to complete then there is the maintenance which will cost every year.
The legal issues of taking peoples land could take 4 to 5 years to work through our courts. We have no company able to make the steel that dump is calling for. We already had companies design and build prototypes in concrete.
He is proud to shut our government down and ruin our democracy.
