Would someone explain to me Covington High School?

I've read stories and looked at videos. Is it about highschool pep rallies? In the past? At the Lincoln memorial? Is it about a teenager grinning inappropriately at a Native American playing a drum? Any story I read assumes too much knowledge on my part. A link to a comprehensive story would be fine.

Just Google Covington High School in Google News. Read some of the stories.

Or look here on DU for the stories.

Nobody's going to repeat them just for you, I think. They're already out there.

... that the stories I've found in Google assumed too much background. I tried to articulate my confusions so someone might speak to them. The DU stories had the same problems for me. That's how I know the issue exists.

Again, thanks for your gracious response.

among the hundreds of posts that scroll down? That I should have seen it along with the many that I did read that caused the problems I named in my OP?

Or are you agreeing with my assumption that DUers can be very helpful, as were those that posted in #6 and #7 and the link we're discussing?

Your question was reasonable. Some responses were not. Welcome to the web! (wink)

A small suggestion: Try the “site search” feature in the upper right hand corner of the DU homepage. It can give you relevant posts from DU.

Hope you got the answers you were looking for.

Kids get bussed from Kentucky to a ProLife Rally. After being in the rally bubble they need to kill some time and they encounter people with differing beliefs, taunting begins and escalates between the two groups. Native American marchers get between the two groups to try to end it/provide a distraction. The Native Americans get surrounded and blocked. Then there is a stare down.

A video gets posted and goes viral. The Native American on the drum makes impassioned statement. Progressive media and bloggers chime in. The MAGA kids get identified as Christian Pro-lifers from a private school and internet investigators get involved. The Christian School and MAGA hat wearing student now have a potential PR problem. A PR firm helps the MAGA wearing staring kid draft a statement.

The conservative media and bloggers chime in. Trump and Jr. decide to get involved and use the incident to their advantage because white sheltered Christians are their base and they feel they can use it to further divide the country.

Catholic schools are mostly secular with a little religion on the side.

The school appears to be hypermasculine with emphasis on sports. (Like many public schools)

Boys are poorly chaperoned and are probably bored. (My opinion is they aren't interested in Right To Life stuff)

Maybe the kids would have gone to the Anti-Choice Rally, and then been carted off to the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress, White House tour, but all the attractions are closed. Might as well wander about and see what trouble we can get into. Their "chaperones" need to be reviewed.

There is a website compiling a list of the names of people who tweeted "inappropriate" responses, and those people will be referred to the white boys' lawyers.

A longer video released a day after the story broke includes more than an hour of footage leading up to the incident. I do think it offers a more complicated picture and provides helpful context in understanding how tensions escalated, even if it doesn’t change the fundamental takeaway—that these students were engaging in a form of harassment.
