General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt will be interesting to see how many Senators break with Trump and McConnell.
Or if they all hang together in support of their President and their Majority Leader?
Also, it will be interesting to see how many Democrats are willing to pay the ransom and vote with the Republicans?
People in this shutdown are feeling real pain and the Republicans do not really care. Democrats are sympathetic to the Federal workers but are hesitant to agree to Trump's extortion. They understand this would set a precedent for many years to come. The Republicans will continue to hold our country hostage.
So, what should the Democrats do? Agree to budget $5.7 billion for a "wall" and hope the Republicans then open the government? Or would Trump make additional demands once he got the $5.7 billion? No one can guarantee that the government would open, even if Democrats agreed to the present demands.
Either today or tomorrow, we will see how many Republicans are willing to put their country over their Party and their President?

The Democratic House Majority would be effectively neutralized.

(68,348 posts)them retain their Senate seats...we will not get a single judge confirmed without a Senate majority. This is only possible with moderate Senators who can retain their seats.

(86,050 posts)I don't recall ever voting other than Democratic. If I thought I could gain support, I'd run for something.

(68,348 posts)the course. The GOP have been shutting down the government on a regular basis since 10 and holding the debt ceiling hostage as well we can't give into terrorist hostage takers.
