Emergency powers in three weeks.

If it were really about the wall, Trump would have have signed some sort of Republican Senate compromise budget with no drama and used Defense Department funds and the Army Corps of Engineers. Or would have done so last year.

Democrats would object, but he's Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

But emergency powers can be useful with an investigation at his heels.

Or am I being too paranoid?

This would go to the courts and he'll lose. If he does it, it's not to get a wall. It's to pretend he's doing something while knowing he'll eventually lose, many many months from now when everyone has moved on.

will not allow this to happen. The Casino owners lost big time in the last month, foreign Tourist stayed away in mega numbers, and of course,Walmart and Kroger lost tens of millions of dollars in sales.

Follow the money!

When the Republicans all turn on him. He wants desperately to have absolute power over everyone, and everything, and this is just another step for him to get it. Then he'll start going after other countries by creating chaos and conflicts with for an excuse to invade them with . He'll try to do the same on the world stage too with threats and causing problems to use for it.

Sure, Trump might declare that emergency. And Nancy will follow that declaration with a lawsuit in a New York second.

Oh, it's an emergency? Why didn't you take care of it while your party had control of both houses of Congress? Why are you agreeing to a 3-week restoration without funding for your stupid wall?

He'll claim it's an emergency, and we'll tell the court "If it's so urgent, why did you wait?" Trump will have to justify why he should get an override to the House's Constitutionally mandated power of the purse.

Which means the money he wants to spend for the wall will be tied up in court for years.

Emergency my ass. Maybe an emergency for his political career and the morale of his base, but I'm happy to be part of creating that emergency.

...it'll just deepen his opposition, bleed into republican support.

He's really stuck. He has three weeks where he's basically exposed as the loser he is. He's back to claiming ownership of the NEXT shutdown. He can't win for defeating himself.

And I don't think the courts would go for it. But if the SCOTUS were to back him, he can he do what he needs to without emergency powers.

I will be extremely surprised if that happens again.

Any National Emergency stuff will be tied up in courts for at least 18 months, minimum.
