This last Labor Day weekend, I argued with my best friend

Of 26 years about the presidential race. She has chosen to buy-in to the bitterness and birther lies and craziness. I think her penchant for "prepping" has taken her into a dark place of lies and RW conspiracies. I still love my friend, though, and we'll get through this.

As we talked about issues and around issues, I summed something up for her. That we as a country, need to decide on what kind of people we want to be, and how we want to treat our fellow mankind. I think she finally understood what I was talking about.

I don't think she'll vote for President Obama again (yes, she did in 2008), but I'm hoping she'll think about what I said.

Please don't give up on your friends, even if they vote poorly. We can be better people than they are. We have something they are missing: love for one another.

I even had a huge fight with my sister over her views. After all the drama that I have been through over politics, I have come to the conclusion that there are some people that I just cannot discuss politics with because we will never agree on that. I also have decided that I will only counter their comments to me with facts and I will keep the discussion as pleasant as I can---no name calling, no negatives----and that will keep me on high ground. Unlike what I have encountered from them.

It is a bummer when this happens between loved ones.

If nothing else, just let this friend know that you will answer any questions that they have about what they are hearing and reading.

for any horrible disaster. Almost. The is even a cable tv series on preppers.

And I can't fault her for being "prepped". I lived in a hurricane area, and it's a good idea to be ready to live without electricity, etc for short periods of time. I store several weeks of food myself in case of natural disaster.

But she's gone hardcore, assuming we will have massive economic collapse. She is armed and has food stored. She's ready for "zombie" invaders looking for her food since there won't be any on the shelves and the dollar will be worthless. (Nevermind that our debt still hasn't reached any level near our maximum GDP)

ALOT of what she has read along with the survival blogs is that "Obama" is ruining everything. And they've poisoned her thinking.

She's not easily manipulated. She's very intelligent. A professional. I think her problem is in not being discerning in her choices of news and information outlets.

She's 86.

Her twin (my Mom) also (doh) 86.

Mom's voted Dem for years.... Aunt Ann... not so much. But I think the crazies are getting to her.

Thank God for critical thinking!!!

Who was about that age when he died earlier this year was still alive, he wouldn't be able to vote, (I believe) even though he was a veteran of WWII, including Okinawa and Iwo Jima. His drivers license expired and he didn't have a birth certificate. It would have taken a near act of God to get him registered, even in Texas.
