I rarely use the word awesome...hope that spelling is right

But today I'm using it because I have NEVER seen a convention that has caused me to cry so many times. Normally, there has been little that brought tears to my eyes. What has caused it? There were so many words spoken that I can relate to. I'm 71 years old. I've watched a few conventions!

I grew up poor. An elderly lady who had a summer home not far from where I lived on a farm, not owned by my father, asked me when I was 9 years old, "What do you want to do when you grow up." I don't know why I said this, "I want to be a teacher". In fact by the time I was in 12th grade, I had forgotten that I ever said that to her. But she remembered. She paid for my college fees, my clothes, etc., and I also got some scholarships from my school and from Virginia. Mu father died of cancer when I was going to college, second year. My mother and my 10 year-old sister had no money. They had to be on welfare. It nearly broke my mother's heart because she had to do that. She moved my older sister's property...a farm. She and my brother had bought her a small, old trailer. She lived there and went to work...at age 50.

There is much more to say, but you can see that I can understand what is going on in this country where people are in the same condition that I was, and if I had not had help from our government and the rich lady who helped me to go to college, I never would have become a teacher for 32 years.

It's too bad that Mitt never had to experience any of the things that I did. If he wins, I will be so, so sorry for our country. My husband and I will try to help some people sign up to vote.

Now I will stop so I can finish watching this convention...with a few tissues. My memory is leaving me now, but I do remember this is the best one ever.

Awesome Convention. Like you, I rarely use the word, so I mean it when I say it: inspires awe. Bernardo de La Paz Sep 2012 #3
