...thankfully the speakers after her made most of us forget her hystrionics.

(101,272 posts)It comes from the Latin 'histrio' meaning 'actor'. Using a 'y' does not help your case at all, since it makes it look as if you were thinking 'hysterical', with the anti-woman connotations that has.

(17,266 posts)Because 'tone deaf' isn't generally considered humor hereabouts.
George II
(67,782 posts)The Doctor.
(17,266 posts)You know my point. You obliviously mocked my spelling. Then, after a go-around where you learned that I used site vernacular, you claim 'Oh, I knew that'.
It's amusing.
Now, if you want to end this properly, just say, "Oh, I forgot the 'sarcasm' tag in my initial response'.", That should about do it.
George II
(67,782 posts)I only mocked YOUR spelling after you denigrated mine. "Go-around where I learned that I used site vernacular"???? More presumption on your part (did I spell that correctly?)
Clearly you don't agree with my opinion, no big thing. But to insult and mock ME in response, that's simply childish.
And now you're lecturing on the proper way to "end this"?
The Doctor.
(17,266 posts)So you mocked my spelling because you didn't understand the vernacular.
Yeah, I get it.... you're ignorant, but still looking for an 'out'.
I gave you one. You declined out of pride and/or ignorance.
You're pathetic.
I don't care what you have to say anymore, you failed any and every test of intellect or maturity I care to throw at you.
Welcome to ignore.
George II
(67,782 posts)I am respectful, but get lectured repeatedly, called "ignorant" twice, called "pathetic" and then told I don't have "intellect or maturity", and THEN you put me on ignore?
How brave.

(101,272 posts)to associate it with an old-fashioned way of denigrating women.
George II
(67,782 posts)It wasn't a freudian slip NOR was it any way of denigrating women!
No gender implications at all in my thoughts. If "we" (you, et. al.) read it that way I think it was a guilty conscience at work on your part.
Why not stop trying to read negativity into a simple observation?

(37,364 posts)I was proud of my sister woman, standing up there delivering with the best of them. She did so for her state when she was governor and she does so now.
If someone standing up and speaking heartfelt truth embarrasses you, perhaps Romney is your guy because you'll never hear truth from his lips.

(67,782 posts)What does THAT have to do with it? I was an observer - and my wife (yes, a "GAL", and a very liberal "GAL" at that!!) felt the same way that I did. The only thing missing was an empty chair next to her.
She gave an interview on PBS prior to her appearance, and reports were that she was "highly caffeinated"!

(2,104 posts)than embarrassing, screaming into the microphone and the gesturing ie histrionics, though I could see someone feeling that way.
I think she could have rallied the crowd up with the same speech without all the bluster and overdone inflection/cadence in her speech or yelling as it were.

Howard Dean is a former Democratic governor, presidential candidate, and Chairman of the Democratic Party.
You can't talk about grassroots politics in the 21st century and not give due to Howard Dean!

wonderful Joe Biden, and the beautifully moving oratory of
a great statesman on a par with Lincoln, our president, Barack

(9,895 posts)When ALL Democrats start taking the fight to them like Jennifer and Deval....
When ALL Democrats start telling them to their faces "YOU ARE LYING."
When ALL Democrats start making noise about the right to vote and showing up on election day to pull the masks off the smiling right wing thieves in the public square...
Once ALL Democrats have the fire in their belly that Jenny G just flashed, THEN they will fear us again.
Its about goddamn time too.

(8,636 posts)I give a lot of credit to Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, and Barak Obama but, the ladies speaking at the DNC were fantastic: Mrs. Obama, Sister Simone Campbell, Caroline Kennedy, among others. I'm convinced that getting out the women's vote is what will put us over the top in November.
