The President is leading in every state he won in 2008 except two: IN, where there have been only two polls (IIRC) and NC, where he and the King of Bain are neck-and-neck.

The problem for Mittens is that he's picking up votes in places he has no chance of winning and in places where his lead is already solid.

The noise of the propaganda is overshadowing the democratic message. That is why they today ask why no one in the democratic party ever says what Clinton said....the truth is that the demos have been saying it again and again...the media minimizes the message.

And Americans are too lazy and gullible to find the truth.

Ronald Reagan won by a landslide over 30 years ago. He did it again 4 years later. The useful idiots who voted for him didn't go away, They now slime around the Internet calling themselves liberals. They are easy to spot if you know what to look for. There are indicators. Being anti-union is a dead giveaway because there is no such thing as an anti-union liberal. When you see someone claiming to be both anti-union and liberal they are in fact Reaganites.

I'm super biased, I'll admit, but after seeing these two parties in action, listening to them talk about what their priorities are, I would honestly be ashamed if I were a Republican. I simply don't get it. The GOP is so manifestly the party of "Fuck you, I've got mine"--but its members seem to be okay with flashing not only their ass but their complete lack of compassion.

It's a puzzlement, that's for sure.

47. Abortion, gays, guns, and wealth
Fri Sep 7, 2012, 12:57 AM
Sep 2012

Social issues is a big deal to many. The fact Obama supports abortion is a deal-breaker for every social conservative in the nation. It doesnt matter what else he says. Many also feel Democrats will take away their guns or force them into some database. The conservatives give tons of money every year to the NRA because of this fear. There is also homophobia. These people can't operate with the idea that gays are serving openly in the military. It bothers them immensely.

And many people with a lot of money also have a sense of entitlement. They feel as though they have a position in the social hierarchy that they dont want to lose. They think either they or their family has earned it. And they think if the government increases their taxes, their wealth is being stolen and given to the poor, who they think is lazy and don't deserve it.

This is how the other side thinks.

49. Call screening
Fri Sep 7, 2012, 02:01 AM
Sep 2012

My mom's theory, and I tend to subscribe to it, is that people do a lot more call-screening these days. I mean, I don't even have a home phone and I never answer my cell for any number I don't recognize. All of my friends are the same way (we're all between 25 and 35). My parents have also stopped answering their land-line and started using their cell-phones exclusively (they only keep the land-line for to call-out in an absolute emergency). My aunt (also a liberal), when she moved, also switched exclusively to her cell phone. This trend has to have an effect on the pollsters, and my guess would be that it would skew polls toward more conservative people who are reluctant to adopt new technologies.

52. Many Factors. Off The Top Of My Head:
Fri Sep 7, 2012, 02:27 AM
Sep 2012

1) I don't think it is that close.

2) The media is derelict in their duty. As David Gregory said (of calling out the rw lies), "That's not my job." They (media) don't do the real work anymore. They allow rw talking points instead of stopping them like Bill Maher usually does or like Matthews has been doing.

3) The media wants a horse race. They want people tuning in. A divided electorate is a much better narrative than the Dems kicking rw ass every election. I've seen a bunch of examples of the (faux) "liberal" media making rw assertions tonight (CNN screen grab re: "turncoat" Charlie Christ for one). Look at how they treat Dem candidates vs rw candidates. They run with every rw talking point, even going so far as asking birther questions and asking Obama about Rev Wright & Bill Ayers during the debates. They ran with Kerry being a "flip-flopper" and a fake hunter/body surfer and an elitist. Look at Schrub in 2000. All he had to do was not drool on himself and they considered it a win. They (media) hated Gore and were very tough on him.

4) RW'ers live in a bubble. No facts get in. You can give them incontrovertible proof of something, and they won't believe it. It doesn't fit the facts as they know them. RW'ers are very much like sheep. They all say the same things, follow orders very well. It's one of the things that's most frustrating. Whether it's good or bad, they've always been good at following, repeating nicknames and talking points. We haven't, probably because we're more independent thinkers.

5) RW'ers claim to be for X, Y, Z (low taxes, etc...)..but if their candidates get in office and raise taxes, they don't care. They have no standards. They mold their standards around their candidates. As long as the R is in office, it's okay. Their 2010 candidates ran on jobs. Have they said one fucking thing about jobs since they got elected?

6) Single issue voters. Think of the scores of votes R's get just because of abortion. Now add guns (my dad was a union guy and many of his co-workers voted R because of the phony gun crap). You also have anti-gay voters, god voters, etc...

7) Many people around here (IA) who do well feel like they've got theirs, screw everyone else. Let's say, as a family, people here make between $75,000 and $150,000. They feel like they deserve their lives, and don't see why everyone else doesn't have the same life (i.e., they totally discount the role lucky/good fortune/connections played in them being where they are).

8) A lot of regular Joe white guys are conservative by default. I see this a lot as a sports fan (ESPN forums are awful). For some reason, the rw has carved out a spot as the cool party, and as the bully ("cool" isn't the right word, as they def aren't cool...just can't think of the right description). You see these regular guys (who usually aren't that bright) parroting rw talking points and jokes. The bully thing is very apt. Bullies always have people standing behind them. People want to be behind those who are picking on others (so they don't get picked on themselves). I think this is why O'Rally has such a fan base. He's a loud mouth bully. Many people back down from him for some reason or another. People love to get behind that and gang up on someone on the other end of it.

9) The economy isn't humming. Dems haven't done a good job of pointing out that the rw has done everything they can to make sure President Obama isn't re-elected. If this were the other way around, the rw would've had nicknames and talking points and made people know that the opposition is purposely destroying the country just so they could get back into office.

10) I don't think it's that close.

71. I think these are a few reasons why:
Sat Sep 8, 2012, 11:40 PM
Sep 2012

-Conservative radio hosts and TV personalities who intentionally mislead working-class people into voting against their interests (ex. lying that Obama will raise taxes on everyone when he only wants to do so on the rich), then tell their listeners to not trust the rest of the media with claims of a "liberal bias".
-Voter ID laws that target likely-Democratic voters.
-Media pundits routinely showing polls that confirm their theory of a "horse race" instead of actual electoral maps.
-People who supported Obama in '08 who became disillusioned and are either sitting out the election or voting 3rd party.
-People who lack knowledge about basic politics and falsely equate both parties and both sides of the spectrum.
-People who refuse to support Obama because of his race.
-Conservative billionaires spending money on deceptive ads against Democrats.
