What's it called, when people betray their nation and then attempt to install a new government?

The Republicans no longer believe in the constitution. They abuse it to benefit themselves. They no longer believe in the rule of law for themselves, only for others who disagree with them.

They no longer believe in fair elections. They do everything they can to rig elections.

They are attempting to install a one party system with a monarch to lead them.

People will not say it, people will not admit, I will. This is called a civil war.

No to the monarch business, btw. Almost certainly their plan is to continue as a faux democracy, with a super-powered authoritarian presidency and weak other branches, and an electorate that's allowed to vote for candidates already chosen by those with power. That last is already far more advanced on the right.

The states are a problem of divided power, blue states especially. But the same thing has been happening in far too many, with massive embedding of corruption in government as part of taking it over. Just look at the blatant election theft of the governor's office in Georgia. Stacey Abrams exhausted all available legal means of fighting for the representative government that was kicked to pieces as the entire planet watched. The laws had been stacked against us by the conservatives who had always controlled Georgia. Methods similarly successful in many states are being copied in others.

Another example embedding of corruption as part of subverting government by the people, that massive explosion in TX? Almost no land-use zoning, but citizens at least used to be able to find out what was in those buildings next to their subdivision. Then a Koch grandson paid a visit to the then- attorney general, Greg Abbott, and the law was changed so they could not. Abbott was rewarded for that and other services to the wealthy by being assisted to governor there.

JUNTA....

(begin snip)

Junta (/ˈhʊntə/ or /ˈdʒʌntə/) is a Spanish, Portuguese and Italian (giunta) term for a civil deliberative or administrative council. In English, it predominantly refers to the government of an authoritarian state run by high-ranking officers of a military. Military juntas can refer to either a government in which a coalition of military officers rules in conjunction or to a military dictatorship in which a leader's government and administration is staffed primarily by military officers. Juntas, like military dictatorships, are often the result of military coups. "Junta" literally means "union" and often refers to the army, navy and air force commanders taking over the power of the president, prime minister, king or other non-military leader.

When it was clear what he was up to, this was what came to mind about his approach except he was co-opting the military.

It may be more appropriate to call them Vichy Republicans. General Petain headed a collaborator government in WWII France that was completely subservient to the Nazis just as this administration appears in the thrall of Russia primarily and other dictatorships (North Korea, Syria, Turkey) to a lesser degree.
