They believe this will solidify their control and their agenda. We are at a terrifying time for the republic. They have become so brazen because they've never been held to account. When the GOP blocked gun reform after Sandy Hook, despite an overwhelming public support for reforms, followed by the blocking of the Gorsuch nomination, and they weren't stomped into the ground, that just empowered their brazenness. They know they can do absolutely anything they wish without any political fallout. I hope that the structures for electoral change are still stable enough to prove them wrong.
