who I have been trying to get to register for a long time now. He always said he didn't care about it. Last night his message was, "I want to register to vote, can you help me?"

I was so happy!

Here in Ohio, registering to vote is all too often directly linked to serving on jury duty. The poor often cannot afford jury duty, losing pay, and paying sitters for their kids or parents, and even being punished by employers for the time off.
We must work hard to convince them to register as voting is one way they can move themselves forward as part of a movement to help everyone.
But do not believe for a second that older people are registered especially if poor or if they are taking care of others. Talk to older people and get them registered too. They remember the depression or what their parents told them about it and are natural democrats. Also ask if anyone in the household has had to move back in due to the economy and need to register at their new address or will be eligible to vote for the first time.

I know exactly what you mean about the jury duty service. When I volunteered for the Obama campaign in Columbus, I did run into a few people who said they didn't want to be called for jury duty because they couldn't afford to miss work. It's quite sad. I hope someone else was able to change their minds. I'm not very pushy, so if they tell me they can't afford it, who am I to tell them they can?

There's only a limited supply of people who the repubs can brainwash, so they desperately need to limit the number of people who vote. Even by just making it more of a pain in the ass to exercise ones' right they'll cut down on the number of people voting.

It's good to see that many of the voter suppression laws have been overturned in the courts.

Betcha no one was registering to vote after Romney's forgettable moment--they were all too busy twittering about the old man and the chair.

When we have family demands for attetion, when we have grass to cut, when we have family parties we could go to, We realize how blessed we have been to do what we can for our people and other leaders like yourself inspires us and reminds us how everything is connected.
I have a little but not extra money, I will use to increase my contributions to this campaign and I will ask others to increase their contributions when possible. I am touched by your actions and Michelle Obama's sincere e-mail plea to give what we can. Thank you for like many others you inspire us to do what is right for ourselves and for other and epotikmize that value of responsibility to ourselves and to others. You are a great American.
