I need a good comeback for my delusional cousin on Facebook

She wrote the following a couple of minutes ago:
After watching the aftermath of the democratic convention last night. I am severely disappointed with the youth of our nation. All of the people who believe in re-electing that cocky son of a bitch in a suit that we call the "leader of our nation" and his bat shit crazy, old as fuck running mate back into office, they have done absolutely NOTHING that he said he would in his last campaign, then you assholes must have been living under a rock for the past four years. Either that or you useless pieces of shit are sitting on your asses collecting unemployment or other means of assistance from the government because no honest living could possibly pay you as much as unemployment does, and heaven forbid if you have to actually pay your own god damn bills like everybody else. GROW THE FUCK UP PEOPLE. And if you are grown... Get off your fucking ass and get a fucking job, and stop bitching about all of the shit you are entitled to... News flash people... The world doesn't owe you a goddamn thing, and you don't owe the world anything. But you should be self sustaining, back to the Natural Law of all organisms is that only the strongest survive, meaning the organisms that cannot sustain their own life die, they do not ask other organisms to do all the work for them so they are able to live. Which brings us to the theory of evolution... Organisms adapt to their environment and genetically evolve to become a more self sustaining being. To summarize my tangent... We need to let the weak die off, so we can evolve into a stronger being.

And after I write to her I'm defriending her and the whole family of hers. This used to be a young lady who I helped feed when she was younger when I babysat her. I helped her with her college fund when she graduated high school. Just a disgusting family over there. My cousin (her mother) makes me absolutely sick teaching her children this kind of garbage.

Er, unemployment insurance benefits are based on YOUR SALARY/EARNINGS from your last job. They are typically paid at NO MORE THAN 50% of that salary, with a CAP on how much you can be paid.

In CA, the weekly cap is $450 in unemployment benefits. If you earn $900 or more a week at the job you lost, you get $450. If you earned $600 a week, you get $300. If you earned $2,000 a week, you still get only $450 a week in unemployment benefits because there is a cap on the max amount paid.

This RW idea that people on unemployment are sitting around leading the life of Riley is bullshit. What they're actually doing is trying to make ends meet on HALF or LESS of the gross salary they were being paid at the job they lost. Most likely, they have also lost their health insurance. Sure, they could go on a COBRA, but a COBRA costs you DOUBLE what it cost when you were employed, because on COBRA, you pay your half of the insurance premium AND you pay the half your employer was paying, PLUS you pay an administrative override of 1-2% as well.

And, while unemployment lasts for a limited time, being unemployed for any length of time in today's job market marks you as being unemployable. 6 months on unemployment? A week without work? Recruiters aren't interested. They are interested in people who are employed but who are looking to make a move to a different job. The unemployed need not bother even applying for 80% of the jobs that are out there.

That is so characteristic of the right wing from Rush to Glenn Beck to Fox News....they are just so angry all the time. I see and feel frustration from the likes of Ed, Rachel and others on MSNBC but I don't get a sense of anger.

As a GOP Senator recently said....we aren't generating enough angry old white men to sustain the party...or something to that effect.

He is correct. It appears the only thing they have going for them is their anger. Anger is something God warns you about and will literally kill you.

Sep 2012

I've had to do it several times, myself.

When they come in on MY page and post their shit on MY page, when I NEVER go over to their pages and do likewise (hmmm, maybe I should rethink that one?), I just un-friend them.

Just ask yourself - "do I REALLY need this aggravation on my page, or in my LIFE for that matter?" No. There's enough of it on Pox Noise and hate radio and s.e. cupp and michael steele and whoever those other 'CON jerks MSNBC brings on to try to get the "opposing view" showcased during the andrea greenspan hour.

I've started deleting their posts, and then soon enough thereafter, I delete them.

Mind you, I posted a status awhile back, announcing that this is campaign season and I will tolerate NO oppositional posts on MY page, and any posts I find objectionable will be deleted. Just making that clear, up front and in advance.

They can post their crap ANYWHERE ELSE across the whole frickin' Facebook universe. But I do NOT want it on MY page. And it won't stay on MY page if they try posting any of it. And neither will they! And you should hear some of the whining and attacks I got for even posting that disclaimer. "YOU LIBTARDS TALK ABOUT FREEDOM OF SPEECH! YOU'RE A HYPOCRITE AND A COWARD and fill-in-the-blank-here blah-blah-blah." They show their true selves when they're challenged or when YOU have the unmitigated gall to get back up in THEIR faces. They don't really want an argument. They want only a "yes sir/ma'am you're right, I give up and give in." I want only for them to keep their toxic shit to themselves and not squirt it all over MY page.

And if they still try to give me shit and call me more names, I just un-friend 'em. Don't need the aggravation anymore! MY page is a CON-FREE zone. It's MY page, after all. I can do that. And I do. Didn't used to want to go that way. Tried to reason with 'em and offer facts and history because chances are, I'm a little older than they are, so I've seen more, especially following politics. And it never does any good. So I just say "FUCK 'em" now. I don't even bother with 'em anymore. They're just not worth it. And that's the attitude I've just had to take. You can't save souls that resolutely refuse salvation.

This relative is one of the most haughty, smarmy, "christians" I have ever known. She owns a christian bookstore in town. I know she was able to buy this business with the proceeds from an insurance policy that her very liberal Mother in Law had, who died of breast cancer, left to her heirs. I considered asking her what part of "were in this together" and "community" she found so offensive from the speech, but that would have just been a wast of bits in the ether. What is so God-awful wrong about decent pay for teachers, nurses, cops, firefighters, bus drivers, trash collectors, water and sewage treatment plant workers? HOW DARE THEY demand a living wage and ask entitled brats like you to ante up a few bucks to pay for it. You may keep every dollar you earn if you promise to do this: NEVER use tap water, NEVER flush a toilet, NEVER get sick and require nursing care, NEVER drive on roads and bridges, NEVER call a cop, NEVER ask a fireman for assistance. NEVER ride a bus or subway, NEVER ride a train, HAUL YOUR OWN TRASH to the dump, and myriad other services public workers provide and infrastructure in place that you don't even think about as you go through your oh so precious life.

Fri Sep 7, 2012, 12:00 PM

Why does she think anyone can get a job at any time? Reality is not optional.

Unemployment insurance is a smart thing to have, because of that possibility. So what's wrong with collecting it when there is no job? There is private income replacement insurance. Does she have that in case she loses her job? Does she really believe she can never lose her job and that if she does, there's another one out there, and is she willing to take any job any where?

Unemployment insurance exists during Republican administrations. Why is she blaming Obama for it?

She also sounds like a racist and an ageist. Does she realize Obama has earned more money than she has and does she admit he must have worked harder than she has then? Why hasn't she worked harder?

Most liberals do have jobs. Conservatives will collect unemployment if the situation arises.

They seem to like this analogy, and compare food stamps to feeding wild animals, so they lose the ability to feed themselves (I defriended someone for that one).

Okay, look at wild animals then. What does an antelope do when he's had enough to eat? He stops eating! He doesn't claim thousands of acres of grasslands and keep others from eating. If he's full, his herd is also full. If he's hungry, his herdmates are too.

The shark doesn't claim every fish for himself, forcing others to starve while he has more than he could eat in a hundred lifetimes.

Their analogy holds no water.

BUT if you unfriend her, you are protecting yourself and that becomes a wall. The hatred and anger will just continue.

Hope to explain what humility feels like, many demand others be humble, but the firsthand experience is no easy task. I was so sure independence was a right, when life pulled events on me that left absolutely no solutions or choices or options I could take/have/see. The depth of what felt like shame was pretty hard to bear. When I had to deal with my pride, my ears burned like hot coals, my inner self felt like it was death, and with all the fear possible I literally got down on my knees and cried "MERCY PLEASE.' Enough reptitions of the previous, and I asked someone because SOME Power unseen kept carrying me- "is this something we're supposed to get used to?" Pride will always be one of my burdens, it'll always be a battle. Still it has allowed me to understand that its just as hard for anyone as it was for me.

Means being a little kinder than someone deserves.

Her ultimate position is "We need to let the weak die off"; i.e., pure Social Darwinism.

Wow. I'm not seeing how you can reach her with reason, not at all. Maybe there are some in your extended family who she loves, but who are weak in some sense? Maybe you can ask her if they should just be allowed to die off? You can try reminding her of how you gave her a hand up, but I doubt it will register. Because in her mind she is one of the strong ones now so she doesn't need any help, never will, and in her revisionist version of history, never did.

I just don't need that kind of negativity in my life, especially when there is something that can be done about it. Also, for Christmas I'd buy her a bar of soap so she can give her mouth a good scrubbing.

I'm very concerned about your mental state. You seem to be in a altered reality state with a lot of anger. Would you be open to trying to come back to the real world by listening to real facts? The anger in and of itself is a major concern. Do you realize you called me and others you know assholes? If you're unable to concede that the emotional state you're in and your accusations is way over the top then have a great time on your own ( not possible ) for the rest of your life. Stay away from me because you're bat shit crazy like most far right wingers. By the way, since you want to go it alone, pay me back with interest all the money I have given you and your family. That comes to xxx. I'll believe your ridiculous words when I see the money otherwise you're full of it, once again like most far right wingers.

You wrote downthread that this woman owns a CHRISTIAN bookstore! I would offer that she seems to be completely ignorant of the teachings of Jeebus Christ.

Ask her where in the Bible Jesus offers, "We need to let the weak die off, so we can evolve into a stronger being."

Also, Hitler and his ilk felt the same way.

Cheers!

Those aren't "policy" differences, they are life values. I know I could never relate to someone whose values are so alien to mine. I would be upset all the time. The older I get, the more I realize that life's just too damn short to waste on hatred, willful ignorance, and bigotry. Who needs it?

They just seem to lump everyone within a certain income bracket that doesn't go to work in that "sucking off the government teet" catagory - Even though a large portion of the teabaggers are on medicare.

Fri Sep 7, 2012, 04:10 PM

You know I used to love them when they were kids. Then I think their father or mother brainwashed them to repeat horrible things like this. The last time I saw them was in 2003 when I went back home for another cousin's funeral. That was when this wonderful child asked me to help her start a college fund. I liked her, so I helped her. Do I have much money - uh no, but she was family so I thought I would help.

I defriended all 4 of them. Her brother called people with autism retarded - he was gone the next minute he said that. The other brother called me a silly girl because I supported President Obama. When you ask them what exactly would make me silly they have no answer. POT - that is all they care about. They don't care that other family members are suffering. Why should they??

Are there other circumstances too?

I'm asking because my family says ignorant shit but I love them still.

However deep down if I eliminate loaded political terminology or racial generalizing they are empathetic.

For instance my grandpa used to drop the n-word but then buys Christmas presents for kids at a children's home.

But it's hard when you try and try to speak to them and rationally explain things to them and they shut you out.

Her father owned part of a company with my uncle. It was a precision shop for GM parts in Detroit. When my uncle got out of the business and retired her father took over the business. Well he did a lousy job. My uncle was the brains and he could not come back from that. The business is gone now because her father drove it into the ground. They rail against the government, but this happened in the early 2000's. Her father refused to update the shop even after GM said they were modernizing more of their inventory. Now my cousin is upset that big-bad GM took her family business away (of course it was my uncle's family business first). Everything is somebody else's fault with her and the rest of them. I'm just sick of it. And I'm done with them

91. If Social Darwinism is natural for humans
Fri Sep 7, 2012, 07:14 PM
Sep 2012

we wouldn't have evolved beyond the cave. Cooperation and group harmony are evolutionary behaviors that advance the individual's and group's survival. If they didn't, it would not have evolved. In fact, competition, true competition, in most forms, is a danger to the survival of the competitors. You are much more likely to die and not live to reproduce and pass on your genes if you are too competitive with other people. Thus, cooperation and sharing evolved because it gave those who possessed it an evolutionary advantage. Humans would not have evolved to dominate the Earth if they never learned to cooperate and manage to control their fighting over resources, mates, and territory. Without cooperation and helping one another we never would have reached complex societies for our greater protection from predators and natural calamities or longer lifespans.

In fact, cooperation and sharing evolved because competition had less survival value. There is far more survival advantage in cooperating and sharing and living to reproduce than there is in dying as a result of competing over resources and thus never reproducing. Humans who helped one another, who were diplomatic and shared and cooperated, evolved and reproduced because more of the humans who were stubborn, resistant and hostile to others and defensive of resources weren't reproducing as much and probably dying from hostilities.

So sure, competition is natural to many of the lower species and, to an extent, still is found among humans, but it is lower on an evolutionary scale than is freely sharing resources to decrease the probability of death.

I would probably say this:

I helped feed you when you were young and I babysat you, and I helped with your college fund. You were such a beautiful little girl and it breaks my heart that you've grown into a bitter, hateful woman with a cold heart and no soul. Good luck with the rest of your miserable life.
