Defeating Willard Romney is a moral imperative. His election would be a calamity for the ninety nine percent of us.

It was the wrong tone to close an excellent convention. His benediction (if it is that by any stretch) was discordant and misplaced. He didn't belong there. That he was given a platform disappoints me in ways I find difficult to express. His words tore our party down on the planks I am most proud of.

God (and a particularly bigoted and authoritarian God, at that) was reinserted. Yay.

There are many Catholics, like the Nuns on the Bus, who could have represented Catholics in a much more across the board, humane way.

He got in an antiabortion dig by saying (paraphrasing) "we should pray for all those souls waiting to be born" - pretty blantant pontification. He also said we should "pray for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan." Some took offense at this but I thought it was very noble. I know the Pubs would never have said somethng about O and B in their benediction.

I would have put him on as a token gesture on the first or second day rather than as a grand finale. But as it was, I think his clever little speech stood out like a sore thumb, and while the message was something like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, it was nice to see how the room was respectful and let it go.

For the sake of all getting along, that was fine, I think.

There are easily ten within driving distance. But I also live in the diocese of Bishop Jenky (the one who called Catholics who voted for people who "voted for abortion" "Judas Iscariots&quot , and Parish priests aren't very autonomous... if the Bishop wants them to say something, they have to. If they go off-script and get reported (and there are RW eyes everywhere), they get seriously censured.

I was recently kicked out of the youth group I've been part of for close to twelve years and been a leader of for about ten, all because I spoke out on Facebook against Jenky bullying Catholics to vote Republican from the pulpit.

but maybe you may want to look around elsewhere. What happens to young people who are gay or women who are outspoken feminist like me? If speaking out is that forbidden, it must be very hard to be true to Christ's teachings of love and acceptance.

And that's one of the many reasons I'm not going anywhere. My family's been Catholic since Boniface came to Germania. I'm a Catholic first, before any political ideology or national identity. I'm a Democrat BECAUSE I'm Catholic, because the Democratic party best reflects the Church's social justice teachings. I'm not going to abandon my Church to the Wingnuts or let them separate me from my salvation.

I shut off the TV after the Presdent spoke so at least not as many people saw it as would have if this shit bag opened the convention. It's just unfortunate to end the convention this way.
