Shocking no one, Mitt Romney is a dick to our troops

Asked by a friendly news outlet why he didn't bother praising our troops in his speech, Romney responded:

When you give a speech you don't go through a laundry list, you talk about the things you think are important.

Wrong answer. You thank the fucking troops. They are not a laundry list. And while Romney might not think they are important, they kind of are.
Romney then goes on to claim that he talked about a "strong military," which was totally the same as thanking the troops for their service. Except that it's not. One of them speaks to the institution, the other speaks to the individuals who do the work of the institution. It's the same distinction as corporations and the people who work for them—a distinction that Romney famously fails to understand.

He claims that throwing more money at the Pentagon than the Pentagon has actually asked for shows his commitment to the troops. For him, money is always the answer because it's the only thing that matters.

People are an afterthought: Easy to fire if necessary, otherwise, unimportant.

What is with that inane smile always plastered on Mitt's face and the stupid giggle when he's asked a tough question? I have a feeling Mitt would be a very bad poker player.

Never mind that so much of that defense budget goes to Boeing, Lockheed, GE, Northrup, general Dynamics, Raytheon and the like.

In Romney's mind, everything can be reduced down to a debit and a credit.

It is almost as if the guy is autistic. Very good with financial numbers. Completely incapable of human emotions and empathy.

It is who he is. He probably cannot be any different. I have a nephew who is autistic. You can't get angry with him for his limitations. But you wouldn't want him to be President either.

Where he was supposed to have "been more detailed about the troops" (aside from only having 2 sentences to say about them)was not well received.

http://votevets.org/news/releases?id=0505

"Sadly, today Governor Romney fell short of the American Legion's standards of leadership and service. Governor Romney continues to treat U.S. efforts in Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran as predominantly, if not purely, military events and to address Russia as our primary enemy. A strong leader does not seek enemies; he seeks to lower the threat threshold with diplomacy while reserving force as the last resort. Men and women who have fought our wars understand that. As for service, our uniformed military leadership is willing to play its part by putting Pentagon spending on the table - because it understands that the basis of our national power is a strong economy and our human capital development. The governor told the Legionnaires today that he and Paul Ryan ‘have a plan' to keep America safe, but from his speeches at home to his disastrous trip abroad last month, Governor Romney continues to confuse rhetoric with strategy. I regret that shortcoming. " --- Retired Major General Paul Eaton

Willard's desire to over fund "Defense spending" shows his commitment to the war criminal GW Bush's belief
that the best way to develop an economy is through waging incessant and endless illegal 'wars of aggression'!

Can you image the hell that would have broken out if a Democrat had said that?

I now understand the intensity that Kerry seemed to project when speaking of that. It was clear that he was disgusted. (It's also clear that he does not even pretend to respect Romney.)

If he said that, he might be done.

that isn't a gaffe. That is damn near a disqualifying attitude.

We will see if the GOP reacts appropriately. If a Democrat (nevermind this particular Democrat) said that, there would be call of treason.

without thanking the teachers. Or remarking how safe and clean a city is without thanking the cops and city workers. Or talking about the great hospital that saved your life and forgetting to mention the doctors and nurses and staff that work there.

The whole GOP has given up on the troops which is so odd since it's what they used as their patriotic calling card during Dumbya's reign.
