We all know how this will play out. The Secret Service will do a perfunctory investigation, visit her, give her "a good talking to" and then nothing will be done. No charges, no arrest. When that happens other would be threatmakers feel emboldened.
Hopefully every college and university Dean of Admissions will be made familiar with this girl's deeds, and maybe five years from now when she finds herself stuck in a series of dead end burger flipping jobs, she'll see some consequences.

Cincinnati.com) -- Alyssa Douglas, a high school girl from the Clarksville area of Ohio, sent out a tweet Thursday night saying: "Someone needs to assassinate Obama...like ASAP #DieYouPieceOfS---"
Now the Secret Service is investigating the threat. The Clinton-Massie School District had a meeting with Douglas and her parents.
Bloggers and Twitter users followed the incident Friday with a discussion of hate speech.
The local Secret Service office said it will report its findings to the U.S. Attorney's Office for Southern District of Ohio. It is possible that the tweet will be determined to be not a legitimate threat to the president's well being.

(20,776 posts)They could also be the type who blast Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage in the house when they are on. While doing the laundry, have the radio blasting and day in and day out, hearing the crap that spews forth from the radio. We all know their hate speech has consequences, and yet they are still on the air getting away with racist slants, and spewing forth fearful views of how the world looks to them. People who are not educated, buy into their crap.
This country is far from removed from racism, sexism, homophobia and yet it thrives everyday in talk radio. You can get sponsors to boycott a radio personality, but there will always be some right wing owner of a corporation willing to step up and take their place. Not only do their form of propaganda affects the minds of adults, but teens as well.

(14,040 posts)It goes both ways. I learned early on that I didn't want to be as intolerant as my parents, that I didn't want to have the same ideology that they have.
I'm not discounting that she may have learned this from her parents but it's just as likely that she learned it on her own.

(20,277 posts)I would bet the farm that there are plenty of people here on DU that could say the same. Her parents could very well be horrified and sick over this. She could have a crowd of bigoted friends.

(20,776 posts)IF she was that bigoted, it would have come up in conversation long before it came out here. Good parents would jump on that..and make sure their child never went in that direction.
When I was young, my dad brought home a puppy. Its was a pug.
He asked me to look at the dogs face. "Well daughter, is that a very ugly face?" I looked again. "No!" I said, how could it be so?"
"Correctly, said my father..."This puppy's mother loved that face, as did his brothers and sisters. To them, they are how they are supposed to be. Love comes from the inside out! "

(82,383 posts)anything the parental generation thought was uncool. I don't think of teens just adopting their parents' views. Though I guess with these kinds of views, it may be possible.

(14,040 posts)but I am suggesting that her parents need to take away her twitter account. How you can extrapolate one from the other, I've no clue.

(81,085 posts)Frankly, I would hope so, too, for her sake. She won't find him quite so attractive when she starts making him angry...
But, then again, considering what she proudly posts about, she'd probably be drunk most of the time and not even notice.
Sad.
