There was a year when the Washington Redskins came out every Sunday looked like they felt they had someplace else to be. It was surreal. The only man on the entire roster who was hitting the line and running through tackles and showing signs of effort was running back Brian Mitchell.
Me and my friends started calling him "Tryin' Brian Mitchell." It was actually the highest praise we could offer.
So even though there is a somewhat left-handed quality to the prevalence of "trying" as the first word that people associate with Barack Obama, it's not necessarily a bad thing to be associated with. In some ways it's the highest thing you can ask.
