Mitt Romney will attend the NASCAR race Saturday night in Richmond VA

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/sports/2012/sep/07/romney-stop-nascar-race-saturday-richmond-ar-2186618/

Could the Obama campaign arrange a similar appearance, and reach out to motorsports fans? Too many Dems consider NASCAR to be declasse, or somehow contaminated, and it's a significant demographic.
I'm not a campaign manager, but a suggtestion or 2 - A Wendell Scott t-shirt for the Prez (Scott was not only the 1st black winner of a top-tier NASCAR race, but all 5 of his kids went to college, out of broke-ass Danville, VA. - an "American Dream" story), And he should spend some time with the pit crews, lauding them for teamwork and dedication.

I know you are a motorsports fan, as am I, but the NASCAR crowd isn't a good idea.

Yes, there are Democrats that love racing, but they are out-numbered by the droolers.

We live in the South and we know how much hatred is in a good chunk of the Nascar crowd. Most are RW birther nuts. I have no problem saying it more than once.

on edit: I said MOST in my post. I did NOT say all.

8 of the starting field parked after the pace lap, having to do with a snit with Michelin. The race stunk, IMS management was livid over the lack of professionalisim by F1. Signs were posted at the exits of the parking lots, reading "We are Sorry, Too".

In DC for the F1 race they paved over part of the parking lot at RFK Stadium and the rest of the race was ala Monaco - ie on the streets. F1 management was not the issue for the residents of southeast DC - they didn't like the noise the F1 cars made and they didn't like all the extra people the race brought in because it also brought in more police and security and scrutiny.

The biggest reason the USGP has been a bust everywhere it has run since leaving Watkins Glen has been the level of competition on the track, and the overall quality of the show. F1 is the only show in town in most of the places it appears, and that is decidedly not the case in the US.
I can think of a dozen American races outside of NASCAR Cup or IndyCar that feature more competition and excitement in a day than a season of F1.

I agree about reaching out to all groups and demographics but going where you are not wanted is counter-productive.

As for Romney? I wouldn't be surprised to see him bring Rafalca to race the cars.

Oh, wait, I mean Ann, because Romney has little knowledge of what his wife does with that horse, according to what he said during the Olympics.
