Speaking to Fox News on Friday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said he did not mention the war in Afghanistan during his convention speech because he doesnt think its important, even though more than 2,100 American soldiers have fought and died there.
Oddly enough, Romney didnt make that startling admission under intense grilling. It was none other than Fox News host Bret Baier who pitched the softball Romney so badly missed. Baier noted that Democrats are essentially saying you dont care about the U.S. military because you didnt mention U.S. troops and the war in Afghanistan in your nomination acceptance speech.
We understand you went to the American Legion the day before and you talked about the service and sacrifice of the military there, Baier continued. Do you regret opening up this line of attack, now a recurring attack, by leaving out that issue in the speech?
Im going to regret you repeating it day in and day out, Romney replied. Hahaha. No. When you when you give a speech, you dont go through a laundry list, you talk about the things you think are important.
Romney added that he thinks its important for the military to be strong, and that he used the word military in his convention speech interchangeably with troops. I think theyre the same thing, Romney concluded. An analysis of Romneys speech reveals he used the word America more than any other, but said military just twice.

(50,252 posts)and does it on issues about which people care deeply. One would think his advisers would have come up with a response that didn't double down on the original insult to the troops but it seems they are as inept as their candidate.

Kerry:
"And let me say something else. No nominee for president should ever fail in the midst of a war to pay tribute to our troops overseas in his acceptance speech. Mitt Romney was talking about America. They are on the front lines every day defending America, and they deserve our thanks."

(19,458 posts)If you are too fucking lame to think before you speak, you should not be President. We saw what Romney did during the Olympics. He's a an intellectual black hole. He's a vapid frat boy, who got lucky by being a total dick to other people.
It's not hard to become a multi millionaire by buying up companies with other people's money, borrowing against them for your profit, then firing everyone and destroying small towns. You don't have to be smart, just ruthless, heartless, and amoral.
