that was my experience as a military brat and a wife of a 21 yr vet. My dad and father-in-law both were strong dems and both retired as senior enlisted men.

I tell my brother that he must have been brainwashed. He goes into a rage and climbs across the table at me.

I think though that the people in the military are convinced one way or another that the republicans will keep their beloved military intact.

there is some truth to the "officers tend to be R and enlisted tend to be D" but it is far from universal. I was an Army brat, but served in the Air Force. My experience was that the Army was far more progressive than the Air Force, which was incredibly right wing even when I was in 30 years ago. Of course, there are a fair share of gung-ho, let's invade types in both.

In the Air Force, I suspect the militarist majority has something to do with the fact that their role is more remote in that they are not involved in much ground combat. The grunts in the Army and Marines, on the other hand, aren't as blindly gung-ho--especially once they've been in combat IMO.
