looked at him funny:
Recently on his radio program, Beck recounted an experience he had at what he insinuated was Neelys Barbecue Parlor in New York City. (Internet chatter says that it is indeed the restaurant of Food Network stars Pat and Gina Neely, since he described it in that way that everyone does when they try to remember famous chefs: My wife said, oh, my gosh, this is so‑and‑so very famous, you know, barbecue couple that do this barbecue thing, you know, on TV.)
And what happened to Mr. Beck? Was he openly jeered at, attacked, or served a cows stomach (though admittedly, they can be tasty)? No:
Well, I have to tell you, the look that I was given by those in charge at this restaurant was, how dare you even come in here. It was quite amazing. I said to my wife as we were walking up the stairs, I said, this isnt going to go well. And she said, no, this was really a mistake. This is a minority‑owned shop. Was that the line that I dared to cross? No? No, it couldnt be because there were white people in there. So it must be something else besides my character. Its amazing to me. One would think that ‑‑ you wouldnt want to shun people that might have diverse opinions. Maybe they could put a second door in or another entrance in for people like me.
The subtle slam of Neelys Barbecue Parlor resulted in the restaurant receiving threats from Beck listeners. Though they were unsure if Beck was calling them out specifically, the restaurant denied that they set out to bully Beck, even getting a very nice-sounding hostess who may have seated the Becks to go on the record to The Huffington Post:

(14,177 posts)Someone accidentally spilled wine on his wife, cleaned it up and apologized. It turned out in Beck's world to be a full on attack by a mob and they made death threats and jeered at them.

(19,458 posts)Scares me to think that there are people who BELIEVE that guy. My neighbors are BIG Beckites, and they truly do believe what he says. They believe all of it. They are paranoid, and about as dumb as a rock. They have that vacant stare as they tell me that the President is a "secret Muslim" and that "govt drones will be spying on us," and "they're building reeducation camps" etc. etc. etc. In a non-corporate controlled Country, someone like Glenn beck would not be on the air. Instead Bain/aka Clear Channel just gave him millions, to spout paranoid delusions about Nazis and the President.

(50,141 posts)cannot accept he is just one of the many people flying on an aircraft or visiting a restaurant. His ever-increasing paranoia interprets normal, courteous, professional behavior as slights against him.

(8,492 posts)His days of fame and fortune are coming to a close. He has to resort to bullshit like this to rile up his minions into threatening innocent restaurant owners and employees just to get some press. Maybe he should just stick to eating at Chik-fil-a (I don't care if that's spelled correctly).

(3,186 posts)what the deal is w/the opening song he uses in his radio show. Heard it yesterday in the car while flipping stations, and realized I'd heard it the few other times I've come across his show.
Something about "We Will Be King, We Will Be King, We Will Be King" repeated over and over ad nauseum ...
Wtf is that all about? King of what? If he didn't have so many unhinged groupies, I'd assume he means King of Fools (which he is, and they are). But when you take into account all of his lunatic followers, it takes on a more creepy tone imho.
Does anyone know what the origin of that song is, and why he uses it?

Then he deserved to be treated like crap because he is such an utter asshole to everyone.
