NM poll by Albuquerque Journal has Obama up by only 5, but the polling was done before DNC ended

The Journal article

http://www.abqjournal.com/main/2012/09/09/news/nm-presidential-race-close.html

suggests it's a pretty close race, but they polled only 667 likely voters, and that was between Sept. 3 and Sept. 6. So about half their polling was done before Michelle Obama's speech, and 3/4 was done before Bill Clinton's speech, and all of it was done before President Obama's acceptance speech.

So the poll basically caught any slight bump for Romney from the RNC the week before, but was too early to show much, if any, of the DNC bounce.

Editing to add that I found that Journal article thanks to a story about it at TPM Livewire tonight

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/poll-obama-leads-new-mexico-by-5-points

but TPM said nothing about how long ago the polling was done -- a significant omission.

Thank you for the important clarification. aaaaaa5a Sep 2012 #1
Most other polls have a much bigger spread than that. NM is considered dark blue. nt Quixote1818 Sep 2012 #2
